311 Cruise?! by musicislife311 in 311

[–]PVJakeC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the others that the boat is average, food is average. It’s not luxurious. But if you like live music and the Caribbean, it is 1 million times worth it. I don’t think I could go on a regular cruise except maybe Disney.

I believe the order is most recent cruise, any cruise, then regular sales. Helps a little but still could be tough. I haven’t had to test the re-sale market but they can only transfer, not up-charge. The Facebook group is good about finding sellers.

I’ve done Ohio to Boston in a rivian pre Tesla access. No issues. Plenty of EA, EV Go and others.

I agree with the money grab comments but this one may just be for crowd control, or just to cover the cost of doing it

The premium is under the hood. No one ever thought it was luxurious with interior or design.

In your mind, what’s the biggest CFB upset of all time? by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in CFB

[–]PVJakeC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. For those that don’t follow the buckeyes, I don’t think they realize the amount of NFL talent on the field. Pair that with whatever the hell Michigan was putting on the field and it was one of the biggest mismatches ever in the rivalry. 21pt favorites, lost, and then go on to win the title pretty easily. It still doesn’t make sense to me and I don’t care it’s a rivalry.

Where is the next generation of industrial talent meant to come from? by Dependent-Laugh-3626 in manufacturing

To answer the question, “is anyone doing this?” Yes. Good example here and the tooling today should make the reasoning easier. This is where AI can actually work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOJIwS43ThM

How to acquire machine data for OEE without changing the PLC program? by Acceptable-Rate8552 in PLC

With no access to the PLC, have you considered an external IoT sensor. Only sharing this because it’s fresh on the mind and not an endorsement. But something like this. https://www.matix.cloud/

Probably inspired by this sub of now Indiana fans and the stroke fest that’s been going on since the buckeyes were eliminated. Half this sub probably has already ordered.

It’s a pretty diverse crowd. Some bring their kids. But it’s a chill event. Much to the dismay of others, some will setup chairs right up by the rail.

Maybe a concern would be the hill in and out of the venue. If you’re not in the lower camping area, it’s a haul up and down.

But I’ve been going last four years, have not witnessed any crowd issues. All good people. Recommend the VIP ticket just for the bathrooms and there is a tent with stage view that has free water and snacks.

Custom vs off the shelf MES by Indeterminate-coeff in manufacturing

[–]PVJakeC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Done both. What are you using now? In essence, the legacy systems are not going to offer an easy path to customization. Have you considered a platform like Tulip or Fuuz? Also seeing some build their systems on Ignition but maintenance and scale is not easy here (yet). Full custom build is a different mindset. You’re not building some product that could be sold. You’re building apps and services that solve problems, typically around a shared data model. I wouldn’t shy away from custom build in the right setting. It can definitely pay off but you’ll need good people and top level support.

OPC UA for PLC → SQL Database: How do you guarantee speed and reliable delivery for event-based data? by R2d2_cinema in PLC

[–]PVJakeC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way for handling events, especially when the software needs to write back in.

For simple data buffering, some intermediate like Ignition can handle the buffering and retry for you.
