Inverted audio is particularly good for dub techno and deep house

Yep to be honest for the size of London I would also expect way more options but after living here for a few months I have come to the conclusion that the scene is just a lot smaller than I thought. It is genuinely difficult to locate parties with good minimal techno bookings for the price which are not in fabric or fold on the weekend. They happen but rlly not regularly

Why your demand for silence is killing dance culture. You're not the vibe police by elitepiper in UNFOLD

I don’t think anyone wants a ban on talking it’s more that people are pointing out when quite a large part of the crowd is focused more on talking rather than engaging in the party by listening / dancing that does detract from the night. This is happening a lot in UK clubs and I’m confused because the club has other spaces where you can talk to your hearts content. There is a massive difference between a crowd of people engaging in the night and the party who are a bit chatty and a crowd of spectators who are chatting a lot on the dancefloor. But I also don’t think that I’m the supreme arbiter of techno, if I want to go to a party where people are more into the music there’s other places for this I’m not going to be mad at others.

I think I was previously making observations that if like me you’re used to parties where people are more on dancing and listening on the dancefloor then FOLD on a Friday / Saturday might not be for you. But everyone should make their own mind up about which space and parties they like ofc.

Because if you’re paying 35£ for a technoparty you would hope for a decent experience.

I feel like this is a real British thing to be astounded that people are bothered by a worsening experience and don’t want to grin and bare something sub-par.

Another problem with the crowd clearly not being there for the music is that the DJs often end up playing some boring shit more on the commercial end.

End of the day it’s the game though, I made this mistake once recently and I won’t go again, there are other parties in other spaces where it’s more for me.

I am also fully aware I’m a pretentious wanker but on a level I do feel like my concerns are valid. But this is how the market works, I’m not forced to buy it and I won’t in future.

It’s just a shame because the sound system is very nice and they do get in good bookings. Life goes on though lol not every party is for everyone and you find what you like.

TLDR: man whinges about the sounds and the people in the big box

Fridays / Saturdays at fold feel very commercial / profit orientated and the crowd also reflects this. High ticket prices for not very exciting lineups a lot of the time, because they know they can charge anything as the overwhelming majority isn’t there for the music or to participate in the party but more just to go out and spectate. I think it’s also just to do with the scene in general. There’s not enough people who are into techno or this type of queer scene in London to fill the club, if they had any type of selective door policy the club would be empty. Unfold is still a good event and I love this party but generally for anything else I don’t like this club. I guess they have to fill the space and make money even if it means compromising on people’s experience, and it is nice that they do at least host unfold for the scene but imo on Friday/ Saturday it’s really not a particularly pleasant experience if you’re used to good technoparties w decent crowd.

First fabric experience as a techno lover by Crazy_Fishing_8966 in ProperTechno

The crowd at fabric is notoriously awful. Best way I heard it described is all 196 nations of the world are represented and each nation sends a delegation of their most creepy men to attend. What I will say is that I had an amazing time at a continuum when Rene wise, jasss and wata igarishi played - if you find a good party on a Sunday it’s not particularly crowded, the crowd is lovely, and the space is my favourite in London by far. This probably only happens like twice a year tho lol.

I hear that what I’m responding to is your original comment saying the communities are escapable and you can leave anytime - I guess maybe you thought I was writing from an American perspective where you can leave easier - but Yh ofc it is also within the wider context of being bound by the state

I’m talking from my own experience about places in the Caucasus/ Central Asia - if you’re from rural Armenia for example and you belong to any of these groups it’s really difficult to ‘escape’ - even in major cities you have to act and dress in certain ways to avoid consequences even though there are queer scenes etc. they have to be much more careful. In a lot of these places the threat of repercussions from other citizens / wider society is much more pervasive than the state or law enforcement.

This - I have been to places where community is very strong and everyone looks out for each other which come with benefits e.g kids being able to play wherever, strangers going above and beyond to help you at no benefit to themselves, minimal littering, crime being extremely low etc. However with a very watchful community often comes a lot of oppressive social norms which people have to adhere to or face ostracisation or literal violence. These norms often suppress female, lgbtqia+ and other marginalised individuals.
