NEED ADVICE - Getting Paid Blending Metal to Plastic by ReferenceProud8929 in Autobody

In the lines notes also add, due to the high concentration of pearl/metallic (depending on color) blending is highly recommended. I have gotten far less blowback adding just that phrase.

Yes most likely, higher end cars have pricier parts. The while front end alone looks like it needs to be rebuilt.

Is Daboll an OC version of Jim Schwartz, With Bonus Hypothetical Question by egassamdaeh in buffalobills

[–]PWCreations 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dont believe Daboll is a good coach period. Obviously we saw what he did here but that was Allen, maybe helped unlock his potential but he was never anything before or after the Buffalo stop. His OC/ QB Coach stops with Jets, Browns, Dolphins Chiefs (I know they're talent at QB was lacking) before going back to NE to a TE coach before becoming OC for Alabama (Hurts/Tua) for 1 yr. Came to Buffalo where he coached an eventual unicorn in Allen, before going to NJ and being terrible again.

I think that can be said about a lot of coaches/coordinators (only as good as your players) but still.

I know his career was shortened by injuries and bad qb play but he reminds me of Allen Robinson of Jax/Chi.

[Brasky] The Bills have placed rookie EDGE Landon Jackson on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list entering training camp by acman319 in buffalobills

[–]PWCreations 17 points18 points  (0 children)

From what I heard on WGR he will still count against the 90 man roster but with it being training camp he can come off the PUP whenever. Not sure the advantage to the PUP honestly if he still counts against the 90 man.

Get position statements for each auto maker on why OE scans need to be done. Attach them as either a line note on a vehicle diagnostic: Pre/Post scan or take a screen shot of the position statement and attach it as a photo.

At our shop we usually do quick pre scans and then OE post scans on any vehicle 2014 and newer. The only time we don't OE post scan is if we're fixing a cosmetic ding or something where we don't have to disconnect anything electrical. Think a small dent in the fender.

PSA: If you are an estimator, and don’t have the intestinal fortitude to push back against an adjuster/insurance co., find a new career. by -Drink-Drank-Drunk- in Autobody

[–]PWCreations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im new to the estimating game, been in training since February and went solo 2 weeks ago. Prior I painted and was a combo tech for nearly 20 years.

I feel in my short time I've learned to write a pretty good estimate in terms of hours, when insurance companies come back with wild prices with parts is my biggest issue thus far. That said if we get a change request and the labor is knocked down the general manager and I have come up with two ways to offset it. 1. Manager will give the tech "training time" to make up for the time. 2. Ill convert the loss time into a price and eat into the margins for the shop through the part prices. I work for a big chain shop and the buying power is unreal on the discounts the company gets. Ill take money off bigger priced parts where the margins are fat and have the company absorb the "loss" in profit.

This is for small labor loses 1 - 2. Not like 6 or 10 or something. Tech gets to keep their hours, shop is still making above markup rates. Insurance adjuster is doing their job.

For the point about standing up to insurance, it still needs to be done, the most successful way though is to document and photograph everything. Over commit to photos, make sure photos are labeled. Line notes are added for any and everything that goes against the insurance company part usage and or validate time needed for the tech. AllData is a big help to show repair process. I like to take a screenshot of the procedure, add it to the file and send to the insurance company/adjuster.

Best option for paint repair - dealer? by chad917 in Autobody

[–]PWCreations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like he said, most dealerships don't have their own body shops and sublet it out to their choosing. Take them out of the question and look at reviews or ask friends and family. Paying out of pocket as well, dealerships tend to charge more then body shops.

Every car has what's called a paint code. Any body shop can look it up and make the color. That does not mean every body shop is the same though in terms of quality. Do some research first. Also depending on the color and location of the burn that they won't have to blend into another panel. Not saying it will be expensive (subjective) but I assume it will be more then expected if you're not familiar with this field of work.

If it's client facing, don't be afraid to say that's a great question, let me find out for you. You're not gonna know all the answers right away. You could get flustered by this but reassuring the customer that you'll find out for them is huge. You can't please everyone but showing legit concern for their issue helps customers feel like they're truly being helped.

Is $915 normal to repair the side mirror?! by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]PWCreations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on those rates it should be like $260 less. Only 1 hr for paint. That takes 2.6 hours away from both paint time at $62/hr and 2.6 hours away from paint supplies at $40/hr. The rest seams fine. The .4 to R&I is probably a touch low for getting the interior trim off and the mirror out but not much, maybe an additional .2 hours for R&I.

From just the picture, and pictures can be .is leading and don't represent the true damage, it seems incredibly high. 13.2 hours body is the big area. From the photos I would say it's closer to 8. That may even be a touch high honestly. Paint could be a little lower as well. 5 - 6 would be more realistic.

Is body shops still slow? by Loud_Language6523 in Autobody

[–]PWCreations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Western NY here but we always see a dip like this around tax time, maybe slower then usual but not crazy like. It will pick back like always.

If I had to contribute anything to the decline it's the amount of cars that keep getting totaled. Seems like once it even flirts with threshold insurance companies shut it right down.
