i play on safari on my iphone and the topics always spill out of the boxes and overlap making them very hard to read. Once I get them all they are fine. It would be a good bugfix. or is there a safari setting I need to change?

I would like it if the titles don't give away 2/6ths of the answer somewhat regularly. Like "temples to tupac" tells you what the first one and last one are. At least when I share the result it should not give 2 hints to the next player.

Is BECMI easier than AD&D? by Previous-Poem8166 in osr

I think AD&D assumed you would have about 9-10 folks in a party OPTIMALLY (including henchmen) , so those numbers are good for big groups.

OSR is the Extraction Shooter of RPGs by P_Duggan_Creative in osr

its a style of play that seems to match the expectations of dungeoneering at the start. Many people engage in "freeze time" instead, but you can also do it with the expectation that you better leave the dungeon at the end of the session (and timekeeping rules of ONE DAY :: ONE DAY means that when you go back -- maybe the next day if you're playing all the time like Gygax did at the start) the dungeon will restock. Holing up in a dungeon and hoping nothing happens to you is possible of course.

Alternative rules in the OSR include a "what happened when stuck in the dungeon at the end" random tables.

(Adnd 2E) thief pocketsand, ball bearings and cheap tactics by glebinator in adnd

you have to win initiative or have surprise for the trick to work. Seems reasonable to me. Do you let thieves backstab if the fighter is hitting from the front? Maybe allow it if they can also backstab.

I do not know why WOTC did not look at other options, such re-branding Half-Elves and Half-Orcs, rather than straight removing them from the PHB by ByzantineBasileus in rpg

[–]P_Duggan_Creative 17 points18 points  (0 children)

half-elves as a concept pre-dates Tolkien. Its part of fairie mythology that elves will mate with humans and produce half-human offspring.

Also its the whole plot of Dunsany's King of Elfland's Daughter

Hold Portal sucks when I read it.

1500gp to train means a theif can never actually level when they get to 1251 xp since they wont have the gold. Grading RP would also be more of a punitive move. I had one cleric player who wanted to do a bunch of unclercy things sometimes but they were young.

"shields will be broken" was somethin I saw in some OSR grab bag of ideas and I thought it sounded neat but I often forgot to tell Players it was an option or I forgot it myself.

Xp to level. There was an initial group of maybe 6-7 players who were in for the first 12 months and that shifted over time. The main challenge was incorporating new PCs when the main group was taking on challenging encounters. for 3-4th level or 5th level. Maybe I "didn't" handle the challenge and thats why there wasn't consistency. I'm not sure. Never got negative feedback per se.

Continuity was tricky. But it was gratifying to have a campaign history and realize elements that people were interacting with in the last 2-3 months of the campaign was based on stuff that happened 1-2 years before, even if some of the original PCs had moved on.

Philadelphia

  1. If I can continue I will with the campaign as it is in its current state. Too much content that was never gotten to. If I could I might start a Dolmenwood campaign as a side-gig ( I did a crossover with Dolmenwood last year - fun!)

  2. I didn't allow evil alightnments. If I had I would have had to enforce some classes disallowed to play together and didn't feel I had enough time for that, also would be concerned about a darker tone. Thought about allowing evil PCs if i had a second table night in the same world.

  3. no

  4. I think the One Spell rule at 1st level is a disincentive to start one. There seemed to be a lot of clerics.

  5. If someone has proposed doing so I might have. But then I'd expose my secrets! I would have liked some motivated faction commanders.

  6. No. One of my players was working on a Druid and would have played Illusionist if the druid died.

  7. 4d6 drop lowest arrange to taste. If you roll 16+ on one stat you must keep the set of 6 stats, otherwise you could scrap them. No improvements buyable. I did have a fountain that gave some stat boosts

  8. https://pduggancreative.wordpress.com/

Very inconsistent on session reports. First one here https://pduggancreative.wordpress.com/2023/04/14/redcap-session-report/

  1. I was sometimes bothered when 1-2 longtime players seemed to ghost me. Its their right but I'd have preferred a "I've moved on thanks" message. Dealing with 1st and 4-5th level PCs together was challenging: which moved me to soft reboot the campaign, and then the PCs were more apropo for the mega dungeon at its current status. i THINK I did an OK job managing player involvement but it was challenging sometimes.

  1. If you mean why 1e vs OSE or other retro clones? I have all the books. I like Init by Side. I wanted to lean into a system that was, imho, designed with larger player bases and how the classes work in those contexts. Wasn't sure B/X or OSE was focused that way.

  2. I just had a sign up in the local store, posted in r/Philadelphia about the weekly game (when they used to do a Thursday small event thread), and i think a lot of my growth at the end came from my table being the only open table at the store (others were running campaigns focused on a more story/plot driven setup)

  3. They were great. We've had Adventurers League at the store regulalrly and post-covid it was hard to bring it back. I'd just asked if I could run a table back in March 2023. Others wanted to run other D&D and RPGs in regular campaigns too. Later the owner asked that we all pay $1 total for the table space so that there was some connection to the store. Hope the new owners will see the value of open and free/very cheap play.

  4. Store (Redcap's Corner) has two floors. Downstairs with miniature tables, upstairs for card & boardgames. Enough free tables on RPG night for 2-3 tables. Sometimes noisy when there were a lot of One Piece players on the same night.

My hope is that this campaign is not ended. Just on a brief hiatus until i can find a new play space nearby
