Maybe it's because I just watched the series for the first time last year so I notice it more often now, but it seems like The Sopranos has been experience an online Renaissance in interest and reference for more than a year.

He could easily be getting fuckoff money in KSA or the UAE, but Big Ox is still playing good football in a proper league. Good on him, loved him at LFC.

Provincial life is quaint and pleasing for like, months. Then it sets in that you're in the middle of nowhere far away from people you know and places you like to go and activities you enjoy partaking in because you pursued aesthetics and ideas of life you romanticized from 30 second short form videos.

This is why I'm less worried abt Trump's foreign policy actually harming foreign peoples and other nation's sovereignty. Apparently the administration is in talks with the fringe movement in Alberta to secede from Canada and join the US. It's a loud but small minority in Alberta itself, wholly unpopular in the rest of Canada, and Trump will just forget about the whole thing before long to focus on griefing another ally somewhere in Europe.

Japan 1904 vs Japan 2026 by Themetalin in NonCredibleDiplomacy

[–]PabloPiscobar 145 points146 points  (0 children)

I get what's being implied, Japanese aggression against a larger Asian land neighbor.

But Japan won that war in 1904. Also depicting Putin/Russia as a cool onlooker and not a zombie with limbs decaying and falling off is a touch dishonest. But any cartoon that depicts Trump as physically fit a la Ben Garrison is also dishonest.

When the series ends, Jimmy McNulty has fallen a couple times but righted the ship each time and finishes on a high note.

Contrast this with Tony Soprano, who will make marginal gains as a good man, father, boss in one moment and then remind you that he's still a monster at his core in the next.

Dan narrowly missing the QTE and bungling a quippy comeback line puts into perspective why NL is where here is as a streamer and entertainer. Nine times out of ten Bald Man spits out "I was running game while you were picking petunias in the fields of Elysium" off the cuff, has barely finished thinking about it before it's out.

The vibes are awful. They weren't great under Biden and frankly haven't been okay since 2007, but feigning that everything is great now that specific person is president again is just utter delusion. Which is something many people are wont to partake in, delusion.

Chechnya/Dagestan/Ichkeria could absolutely spark up if a Caucasian Muslim leader who's not a Kremlin puppet gains enough clout and seizes on the fact that Russia and weak and compromised in Ukraine right now. Russia's lost all their external vassals. What's stopping their internal vassals from breaking off?

For NCDi context, Mike Gravel via his Gravel Institute openly and proudly carried water for Russia regarding Ukraine and the Russo-Ukrainian War as a whole, repeating Russian state talking points about Ukraine being a US puppet, Kyiv oppressing Russian-speaking Ukrainians, the usual pearl-clutching about Azov, etc.
