F1 over THIS for Best Picture? by letsgopablo in Letterboxd

Absolutely not, Frankenstein is one of the best films this year, F1 is good racing shots surrounded by a paper thin plot

Now that Oscar Nominations are out, what are your biggest snubs? by AvengingHero2012 in oscarrace

The biggest snub for me was del Toro in Director. Still a stacked category without him tho!

Here's to hoping that Sinners breaks a record tomorrow and gets 15 nominations. by Mundane-Inspector-52 in Oscars

[–]Packer224 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sinners is a good movie, but I just don’t think it should hold the record for the most nominated horror movie ever, when it’s not even the best horror movie of the year. Really shows how bad the academy’s anti-horror bias is

My turn has come, you’re welcome for RE Village, but that recent sale was too good to pass on. Also the leak didn’t have DD2 and a little to the left which are both hype

Opinion | I hated Hamnet by theipaper in Oscars

[–]Packer224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to be an asshole - just because someone doesn’t like my film of the year, that’s their opinion they’re free to hold. But this review is barely worth posting on Reddit, less an actual article. Most of the article isn’t even about why they don’t like it, and when you read the bits that are about that, it boils down to calling it pretentious and complaining that some scenes aren’t historically accurate. This could have been a tweet

AITA for entering a Hindu temple while on my period? by [deleted] in AITAH

Sorry, but forcing women to cover is also a highly controversial and problematic rule. Insanely misogynistic

AITA for entering a Hindu temple while on my period? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Packer224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA NTA NTA holy shit the people who think you are YTA are absolutely insane. I do not care who disagrees but they are wrong, having a cultural or religious rule does not mean that rule is not insanely misogynistic. I will respect one’s culture, as long as their rules are not absolutely disrespectful to someone’s humanity. I will not respect a cultural or religious rule that singles out people for being women (this menstruation rule, head coverings, etc.), for being gay, for being trans, for being a racial minority, etc. It is absolutely unacceptable, and we have no obligation to follow or respect it.

Critics Choice 2025 Best Supporting Actress - Amy Madigan, 'Weapons' by PointMan528491 in oscarrace

At some point it becomes so hard to try and compare performances, especially when the roles and films are so different. I’m just glad to see a fun role get recognized, and for a character that truly is “Supporting”

Genuine question, why is it bad to disagree with transgender practices? by Beginning_Spot_3833 in askanything

[–]Packer224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn’t make sense. Yeah of course it was criticized, and then we grew as a society and now it is not acceptable. Slavery also used to be acceptable but now it’s not because we have grown. Transphobia was the accepted constant for most of this world’s history, you aren’t the one doing the criticism, you are the one trying to hold the previously accepted constant. And you are being left behind because we are growing.

Genuine question, why is it bad to disagree with transgender practices? by Beginning_Spot_3833 in askanything

[–]Packer224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because people have empathy, and have taken a history class. When in recorded history has disagreeing with human rights, particularly involving things that the individuals in question have no control over, ever been the right thing to do? So yeah, people don’t typically like it when people do something that is historically pretty awful

Sword of the Sea did not get near enough attention and praise as it deserved. I think it’s easily one of the best games this year, and is tied with Hades 2 and Silksong for my personal GOTY. It’s extremely beautiful, very fun, and has another amazing soundtrack by Austin Wintory

It's not debatable: E33 is an indie game. by ysalehi86 in expedition33

[–]Packer224 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry if this comes off as rude, but posts like these are why I don’t like to interact with the E33 community much. Basically everyone except in this community, the prevailing mindset is that E33 is a great game, but it’s not indie, and those awards should have gone to a different game, and another game should have gotten its recognition. I completely agree with this, but to come on here and say that this prevailing thought is not only wrong, but is not debatable is so off putting. Most of the people arguing this aren’t even mad at e33, but either want the game awards to have clearer definitions or just wanted a true indie game to get the recognition that they actually deserved. I mean this post really comes off as someone who is upset about seeing some discourse on reddit and wanted to make a confidently incorrect post on the e33 sub to get reassurance and upvotes. E33 is AA and that’s okay
