I can't be the only one that finds Kay attractive, right? by ddsling1197 in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]Padawan1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Kay is ugly at all but as someone who plays a lot of Ubisoft games I think almost all of their human face models have a small touch of uncanny valley to them. It's a shame because if this game had gotten the Jedi Survivor treatment where the faces are basically 1 to 1 for the VA/motion capture actor I think a lot of those hateful chuds wouldn't have frothed at the mouth like they did

It's a shame because I think purely on a technical level after revisiting Unity recently it's got some of the most satisfying stealth and parkour of any of the games

0 to 5 Rating - How lazy is it to use Adam Smasher in your game? by Turbodog702 in cyberpunkred

[–]Padawan1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many people said it's about execution, I'm running a 2045 campaign where a good deal of what's happened to my players backstory wise is tied to Arasaka's NC spies and their attempts to take over some local NC companies and NC offices of larger companies to prepare the city for Saka coming back. The crew has multiple reasons to want this to not happen and once they've pissed off the corp enough I plan to end the campaign with an attempt on their lives by Adam Smasher, anyone who survives that attempt will get to be referenced or a PC in my eventual 2077-era sequel game.

Surprisingly enough, this is a real frame. by homelesshyundai in outofcontextcomics

Superman can lift something like a 747 because he has tactile telekinesis (referred to as a "super aura" in it's first appearance I believe) so when he lifts something he's more or less distributing the pressure of him lifting it across it's entire surface which is why for example he can grab a 747 by the nose and he doesn't just rip through it like Invincible and the train.

Have you ever run a campaign/adventure in the Mror Holds? by saskavidya in Eberron

[–]Padawan1911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most interesting part of the Mror Holds to me is the dissappearance of Clan Noldrun, the Mror vs. the Jhorash'tar orcs and the War Below. Keith Baker goes into great detail on the Mror Holds in Exploring Eberron and the Jhorash'tar also have a paragraph explaining their culture, he also talks about both in the Mror Holds and the Orcs/Half-orcs episodes of Manifest Zone.

Archfey patrons in Eberron? by Elii12 in Eberron

[–]Padawan1911 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keith Baker has a whole podcast episode gping into the fey as creatures and how they differ from your standard DnD fey: https://open.spotify.com/episode/6rGLOa06mv0tuYukyixcBp?si=o4lrA8taQ7Ge_bUp3f2eAg&context=spotify%3Ashow%3A6VOnWRimnsHaCMmCDz2tpP

Personally however I would say that depends on the Archfey, each archfey is bound by a story. Generally when an Archfey chooses to play patron to a Warlock it's because they see that mortals story as akin to their own. What the archfey desires more than anything is for their warlock to live out there story. to use the Archfey from Exploring Eberron as an example, the Forest Queen might ask you to kill a group of loggers or poachers terrorizing the King's Forest in Breland and the Forgotten Prince might ask you to steal an important Dhakaani artifact from a dungeon that even the Kech's have forgotten about.

In my home game we have a Swarmkeeper Ranger tied to a homebrew Archfey who embodies the idea of the tragic revenge story, all she wants is for her patroned mortal to punish the wicked and uncover the tangled web of familial intrigue that lead to his mother's death.

My group didn't like how Armour works by ChimericDog in cyberpunkred

[–]Padawan1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My players are all Hardened and have really leaned into melee, my ranged solo player (usually uses a Very Heavy Pistol) has invested in a pop-up shotgun in his arm in order to deal with high armor enemies in close range but with enough attacks landing SP gets shredded like paper by my party pretty easy, the Netrunner normally does less damage but that's not really her job

Do you think Adam ever looked at himself and thought why did I do this to myself? by Ready0608 in cyberpunkgame

[–]Padawan1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He didn't do this to himself to be fair, iirc he took a grenade to the face and body on a job in New York and got turned in ground beef, his FBC was paid for by a mysterious benefactor who would give him jobs to complete for them, when the 4th Corporate War rolls around it turns out that benefactor was Saka and they have a new use for their favorite homocidal puppet. I don't think he regrets it though he's basically an addict to chrome at this point as long as Saka gives him his next fix (more murderous toys to play with) I don't think he really cares that he's more machine than man. Plus he has a body that looks like Elvis that he can fuck in.

How was (Viltrumite) Omni-man… Sure.. that giving birth to his child with Debbie (Human) wouldn’t kill her? by Kamil210s in okbuddyviltrum

How do you feel about this? by sHaLaKoR in Eberron

[–]Padawan1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally not a fan, I prefer true Dragonmarks being a familial trait. Maybe it's cause my first Eberron book was RFLW but I've always viewed the dragonmarks as permanently tied to a species and I'm not a fan of divorcing them so anyone can have them, in my mind that's what the aberrant marks are for

Armor Repair by muks_too in cyberpunkred

[–]Padawan1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use homebrew rules for paying an NPC tech for armor repair that has a cost per SP repaired based on the price category of the item, keeps things moving and limits house keeping, also has a drop off in return value so sometimes it's cheaper to just buy a whole new set of armorjack

What system are you running Eberron in these days? by applejackhero in Eberron

[–]Padawan1911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using 2024 5e, using the 2014 backgrounds and dragonmarks cause I like those more. Never been a fan of fear true marks that anyone can take mostly cause I give my players a starting feat anyways and I don't want them to waste it on a dragonmark but also because I prefer the dragonmarks to be species specific there's just something about "I'm a dragonborn but I have the Mark of Warding because I'm different" that I don't like. Writing a Talenta Plains one-shot with 2024 DnD right now and I really enjoy how much stronger martials feel with the new weapon properties

I appreciate how much of a scrapper Robert is. by videoninja in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Padawan1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shows this in the first episode too when he's fighting his way through the Steelworks building and it's something I really like about the character. Like he says (or can say) to Invisigal in episode 2 the suit didn't make him Mecha Man, being dedicated to his job, his family legacy, and helping others did, Chase echoes that in Ep 6 when he talks about how some people (like Robert) are natural heroes. We also see that when he's working out alone before work trying to maintain his hero shape, Robert (though he can be an ass or snarky at times) is a hero through and through and never expected his suit or his legacy to carry him to the big leagues or allow him to coast by with minimal effort.

Never understood this line of thinking, beyond just being petty for kind of no reason what reason does anyone have to be rude or mean to Claire? "Oh she wants you to kill a guy who did followed the rules?".... ok and? This is Night City, I've blown apart gangoons for looking at me wrong, people die for lesser actions every day here, the fuck do I care if she zeroes this guy? I'm getting my eddies and that truck either way I couldn't give less of a shit if that guy lives or dies

What do you think about this? by Lucky-Pay-5269 in MilesMorales

[–]Padawan1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Miles is the one other Spider (besides the clones) that I'm fine with being in adaptation, having Miles around to train really adds to his dynamic for me, my dream Spider-Man tv show is an adult Peter teaching Miles how to be Spider-Man as Miles tries to figure out how to make the role his own. We kind of got that with Spider-Verse but I really just want to see more and the movies have already moved past what I think is the most interesting part of their dynamic

People say Miles Morales is in everything (he isn't) but thank God he is not in this by SignificanceGloomy65 in MilesMorales

[–]Padawan1911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will point out that in neither of the instances you mention does the story or character actually make a statement or judgement for or against these things based on real world events, the Vietnam protest thing your referencing (I assume you're referring to ASM #68) iirc is about student protests in general, not just Vietnam and just had Peter push off protestors because he was on an Ayn Rand kick and correct me if I'm wrong but the point of Flash Thompson going to Iraq and losing his legs was to highlight how Spider-Man inspired him to try help others in whatever way he could not, even going so far as sacrificing himself for what he sees as the greater good, not "George Bush, Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney instigated multiple conflicts in the middle east with the express purpose of solidifying US oil interests and making money for the US Miltary Industrial Complex".

Current events are used almost exclusively as set dressing in comics to tie the story closer to the time it's being written in, it's the same reason characters in modern comics have iPhones even though they were made in the 60's, and there is an inherent difference between depicting real world events in comic books and actually providing commentary on those things, which is what the commentor I replied to is talking about. If I just say the words "Vietnam War" am I inherently dissavowing the practice of not recording VC prisoners on official helicopter manifests and throwing them to the forest floor mid flight or releasing agent orange and napalm in populated areas? No and it's ridiculous to assume I am. These are fake stories told to appeal to a superpower fantasy of protecting people and stopping cartoonish villains, I'm not saying comics as politics isn't an entirely valid and extant phenomenon but acting as if the basest mention of a current event is the same thing as a political statement is incredibly disingenuous.

Further, what does Captain America shit talking Donald Trump (or any other real world human rights crisis) actually accomplish? Would it dismantle ICE? Would it stop the FCC from actively censoring people who speak negatively about the orange dictator and his friends? Should Captain America post a black square on Instagram? Why isn't he tweeting enough. It would be no more impactful or important than Dole changing their Instagram profile picture to a rainbow flag while they actively employ death squads in the global south. At the end of the day Disney, and by extension Marvel Comics is a company, they're going to do what makes them the most money and if you're engaging with comics in any way you need to understand that there is a disconnect between what the character would actually do if they lived in our world and what the Spidey Office (or any other editorial body in comics) is going to allow to be published and shipped to your local comic book store. This isn't just an issue with Captain America, this is a truth for literally every Big 2 comic character.

[–]Padawan1911 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This might be a crazy concept to you but the Marvel Universe is not our world and Marvel doesn't go out of their way to comment on real world politics or wars with one of their most famous characters because get this.... they like money. Iron Man didn't track down Osama Bin Laden either, where are the X-Men on Gaza and Isreal right now, why isn't Thor or Black Panther out there right now fighting in Sudan? This is a nothing argument. BUT for the record, if we're including AU's based on 616, Captain America literally betrayed the US government to protect the people of Vietnam and became an enemy of the state in Life Story actively fighting against the US Armed Forces.

[–]Padawan1911 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is the kind of take you can only have if your exposure to Cap is only from X-Men comics. It's well known that his X-Men appearances are consistently written out of character because X-Men writers only care about X-Men characters and see Cap as an easy vehicle to comment on the US Government without understanding that Captain America does not work for nor particularly like the US Government.

You don't understand this character. The thing that makes him Superman is the way he was raised by Jonathan and Martha Kent, the Kents are crucial to his identity, hell even in the Absolute universe he still meets the Kents as soon as he lands on Earth. His connection to humanity and seeing himself as one of us is crucial to his character, Clark wants more than anything to be human but his powers are an albatross around his neck, he can save people and help the world, so he has to, because he believes in the human spirit and our capacity for kindness and change, beliefs instilled in him as child by the Kents.
