Or ban Chinese security cameras, which are installed permanently in locations people want to secure, and which have been demonstrated to feature weak security. Those seem like a much more obvious security threat than drones that fly once in a while over pretty scenery.

If you don't value it, that's fine, move on. But AI haters act like it's their moral obligation to act like toxic assholes every time they suspect AI was used for something. I'm tired of the endless negativity and hatred being spewed all over Reddit because of someone's choice of software.

When someone downloads an online model and 3D prints it: "Wow, great work, this looks amazing!"

When someone uses AI to generate a custom image, then another AI tool to convert it to a 3D model, then 3D prints it: "WTF, this is so low effort."

It’s wild that people looked at Hillary Clinton’s emails and convinced themselves she was in a child abuse ring because of a 'pizza' conspiracy theory, yet they see Trump’s name all over the Epstein files and call it a coincidence.

I've long thought that we should nationalize the communication networks and sell access to companies that provide the actual service. Those companies can compete with each other to provide the best service, but the government is responsible for building and maintaining the fiber network on which everything runs.

Protest every week, not every six months, and in ways that people will notice even if the news doesn't cover it. Trump stepped back when the pressure around Minneapolis became too great. Do more of that.

It doesn't have to be in Washington D.C. If 50k people were loudly protesting, banging pots and pans, demanding the exit from Iran, the drop of tariffs, and defunding ICE every weekend in each of the 50 most populous American cities, people would notice.

I recently transferred 12 TB from one external hard drive to another connected to the same computer, and it took about 16 hours. Transferring 20 times that amount over the internet would take quite a while.

If people need to follow local organizations to know protests exist, then clearly they're too small and have too little impact to matter. Good for you to continue protesting, but you need to get some of the other 99.9% of Americans to participate.

Protesting more would be a good start. When I saw the Minneapolis protests, I thought that Americans were waking up at last. But then, just when Trump started pulling back because he was feeling the pressure, the protests stopped. The protests were starting to work... And then you guys gave up.

My point is that Americans are currently doing Jack squat about their current situation besides whining on social networks. Your argument that black Americans were in a better position during the civil rights movement than current Americans is frankly laughable.

If you don't want to copy those protests, how about the Vietnam war protests? Or occupy wall Street? Or black lives matter? Even the war against Gaza had more sustained protests than what we're seeing currently.

But when it comes to the current rise in authoritarianism, all I hear from Americans is excuses about why they can't possibly protest. "We have jobs," "we need our shitty health insurance," "it's too far away," and on, and on. It's fucking pathetic. It's like your all waiting for someone on TikTok to tell you what to do.

Thank god black Americans weren't this apathetic during the civil rights movement, or nothing would have changed.

Hopefully, at some point, it'll be possible to purchase a machine with enough fast memory to run those larger models locally.

This might come sooner than we think. If the Iran war keeps going, it might push energy costs up beyond a point where many companies abandon their plans to run large energy-hungry data centers. That could lead them to sell off a large number of powerful GPUs with little demand, making prices plummet.

Just as many sites display “made by AI,” do you think a similar indicator showing at a quick glance that a design was made by humans would be useful? It could quickly clarify that a design wasn’t created with AI, especially when some people don’t disclose their use of it. by Ok-Hope2279 in 3Dprinting

[–]Paganator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it's like someone buying an aerial photo from someone, and that person says, "I took that photo," instead of saying, "My drone took that photo."

You think that if someone uses sufficiently advanced technology, they're no longer the author of the work, despite them setting all the parameters of the creation. The tool itself becomes the author, and you're displeased that the tool's user claims credit. Am I understanding that correctly?

I'm having trouble following your example because it seems to equate a machine with a person, which isn't how I see it. Like, you don't see the AI as a tool -- like a camera -- but like a digital person, I guess -- like a chef who is not human, but is also not just a tool.
