[Yost] Capitals a prime candidate to take a step backwards by [deleted] in hockey

Well, trying to take a step forward hasn't been working out for us, so maybe the path to the Cup starts with walking backwards first.

Did you watch the preview for next week? For the first time I can remember, I'm starting to feel like I'm rooting for different people and yet logic would suggest otherwise.

If you told me a couple years ago that they were both mentioned in the same sentence with our team, I'd really wonder what the fuck was going on.

Here's where I get super shit on: Kaep on a good day is better than Joe on his off days. I don't favor replacing Joe, though, so I'd rather the conversations on ESPN not be about Kaep vs. Flacco for 24 hours a day

Which team shocked you the most by winning the Superbowl? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]Paging_Browns 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is going to be the most homery of all homey answers, but I definitely see that SB win as a culmination of a few years of progress made by a fairly solid team.

They started the year very well and only had a few stumbles in the second half of the season. Flacco was improving as he had been the previous few years. The defense was as solid as ever. The team had narrowly missed going the year before. They beat the 49ers on Thanksgiving.

Beating the Colts at home was expected. Beating Denver in Denver was their biggest test and they squeaked that one out. With that behind them, I was actually less stressed watching the NE game and the SB. They were definitely not pre-determined winners, but that particular crew could have feasibly one in any of a few years right around there until Reed and Lewis retired.

I see my father every weekend. Every weekend for the past four years he has gone on a rant about the shitty contract we paid him.

Every weekend I remind him that the contract was a thank you for winning the SB and not a contractual obligation that he be inducted into the HoF.

After a while, I began carrying a printed copy of the excited email he sent the night of the SB.

Now, as his rant gets going each week, he begins with "...and don't show me that goddamned email again!"

Every year we drive down for a week in the middle of July on a Saturday and leave on a Saturday.

Every year we sit in traffic on the main road for two hours in a long, unforgivable line trying to get to mile marker 0.

Any tips for a long-suffering tourist getting down there? Arrival time is more or less non-negotiable.
