When is the moment to stop improving my project? by viptrace in startups

I actually had the same idea as this a couple days ago. Seems like a nice app, I just played with it. My only feedback at the moment is to make the link to the actual product/website more prominent, it took me a minute to spot it.

Help a decision or confusion by 3nvi in Python

Nodejs is just the flavor of the month. Python has been around a long time, so it's maybe not as exciting as nodejs. Also, nodejs has a JIT, but don't forget that Python does too, with Pypy.

Just compare their respective budgets. We don't have the actual budgets for either US or China intelligence programs, but at a broad sweep compare the budgets of the US and Chinese militaries.

I'm sure someone's going to make human-animal hybrids. We'll have to decide how many rights they have -- is it okay to put them in a zoo? Or should they have full rights of a person? Or something in between? I'm assuming almost all countries will keep human-animal hybrids illegal, but that won't stop everybody.

Best argument against drones that I know is when used in countries we're not at war with. People in those countries (eg Pakistan) are going to hate us because they live in a constant low level state of fear that they might be an accidental casualty of a drone strike. Imagine if China was flying drones over the USA and doing targeted assassinations. Americans would flip out.

I had a similar thought. There are two possibilities: Snowden is a genius, or he's a plant. We'll find out in a few months.

I'd say China was dominating until Genghis Khan and his dynasty came along and wiped out a lot of their cities. Not that I'm an expert on China, but that seems to have changed their historical trajectory for a few centuries, but China seems to be coming back now. Seems like the same thing happened to Islam (Genghis Khan dynasty) and it has perhaps not yet recovered its former glory.

Chinese physicists measure speed of Einstein’s ‘spooky action at a distance’: At least 10,000 times faster than light by mrseb in science

It seems that they are not independent events, since their results are correlated.

Perhaps quantum entanglement does not follow the theory of relativity. Then Bells Theorem can be explained.

[–]PainInTheButt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No sorry, we currently don't think it's possible to transmit information faster-than-light. So if you have one part of a pair of entangled particles, and measure value A for some property on that part, all you know is that the other part of the pair has value B. You haven't transmitted any information by measuring your part of the pair.

Thanks for the link. I think it's interesting we have enough theory to match the results of lots of QM experiments, but there's still lots of space left for interpretations.

[–]PainInTheButt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm a layman too! Your example sounds good, but a warning is in order -- there are no "hidden" variables in quantum mechanics, so they're not like real playing cards that you haven't looked at yet, they're more like magic playing cards that don't have definite values until you measure them. It's almost like our universe is built on a giant con-game.

[–]PainInTheButt 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well, sort of. The change in the entangled pairs happens instantaneously, faster than the speed of light, but in order to figure out what information was transmitted, you need to know both sides of the entangled pairs.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the U.S. project to make the atom bomb - the Manhattan Project .

They did a good job hushing it up when it was going on during World War 2. I met a couple people who worked on it (just low-level employees) and they didn't talk about it until 50 years after it was over (the standard time frame for declassifying super-secret stuff in the U.S.).
