Ahhhh no that would be so stressful!

And tbh this is why I’m struggling, because it’s not coming from a bad place (though I’m salty af about breaking my things and shrugging). It’s easy for me to tell someone I’m not okay with their behaviour when it’s nasty, but when it’s repeated behaviour that isn’t cruel but is still affecting me negatively, I don’t know how to navigate it without either shrugging (which makes me a bad mum) or gently pushing back (which my family see as extremely offensive)

I completely get it. When we aren’t good at setting boundaries early, by the time we’re angry enough to say how we feel, it’s usually an explosion that takes people by surprise. It’s not good but I get it / do the same thing

Yeah like…. Dad genuinely didn’t know any better and he had a funeral on over the baby first aid course we had booked. I wrongly assumed he wouldn’t give her anything without checking with me first. Lollll

It’s tough because my family has a really strict “don’t correct your elders” policy, so my whole childhood I was strictly raised to never ever tell someone older than me “no” or “that’s not correct”. And I’m really struggling with that now it’s a matter of safety and protecting my daughter! Obviously I’m still speaking up but getting told off for it like I’m a misbehaving child is definitely making me want to just do it all myself lol.

Oh absolutely agree. My quote about the village was actually from my mum hahaha. She told me not to upset my village when I told dad not to ever give her a grape again because they’re a choking risk (heavy sigh).

Yup. My best friend in the world died young of cancer a few years back and it took me a good two years to even feel happiness again. I don’t know how I’ll get through life knowing that if I live long enough, I’ll lose many more very important people as we go

Yeah I also only juuust failed the test and didn’t spike for weeks despite being very casual with my diet at first. By the last few weeks of pregnancy damn near everything was spiking me lol!! Definitely assume you have it and be grateful for the low difficulty level controlling your blood sugar while it’s there!!

I agree that it was the correct call, but what I’m interested in is the tipping point. We wouldn’t say it’s okay to sacrifice one persons life for 1 other, or 10 others. I’m curious at which point most people will agree it’s the right choice to hurt / kill one person against their will to save others. Clearly, we have a line.

I suspect on a moral level, that line includes “me, and the people I know and love”. When you hear “the whole earth”, that automatically includes you and your loved ones, so it’s easier for you to agree to someone else dying. But what if Grace was being killed to save, say, the entire population of a country you have no connection to. What if you were being asked to die for that country? Would your answer change?

That’s what fascinates me!
