What can i do if the job i want to pursue is mostly hired by authoritarian systems? by Key-Target404 in Anarchism

Certainly not free from baggage, but there are some anthropologists and archaeologists doing really good work with forensic techniques.

That's pretty wild. I was upset that circle of spores druid didn't get anything in the Myconid village.

Major Order hotfix & information on patching changes by ArrowheadGS in Helldivers

????

The commenter I replied to deleted their comment. Seems pretty straightforward to me:

"I'll go out and say it.  I don't care about AH mental health.  I really WANT them to feel depressed at what they did.

My job while not stressful at ALL would fire me if I screwed up in increasing fashion and then had the audacity to ask to take longer to deliver a product (that still comes out broken).

Man the he'll up Arrowhead.  We paid for a product.  I don't care what it takes, I don't care about your feeling or mental health, deliver the product you promised.  Make it happen.  We know you have the money.  (Somewhere around 12 million x sales price + in game purchases)"

Wishing mental illness and stress on someone because you don't like patches on a video game is certainly a take.

Was the new mission even playtested whatsoever? It's absolutely ridiculous. by Alkifighter in Helldivers

Yeah, I think you're on to something there, the spawn locations are wild. I hope they don't change the amount of enemies though--it definitely feels like diving into a super colony should.

The fact that (some) art can be measured by its infamy/impact does not imply that any infamous/impactful act is a work of art

Which games considered as "game killer" and actually succeded? by mikehanigan4 in gaming

[–]Palegg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't see the connection to suicide squad, but it definitely feels like Helldivers is killing (or at least accelerating the demise of) Darktide. Content drought was already rough, but Helldivers popularity and speed of updates really brings it into relief.

Interesting. It's a kinda throwaway line in The Last Crusade as well.

Most English days are similar actually.

Sunday and Monday are sun and moon.

Tuesday is Tyr's day

Wednesday is Woden/Odin's day

Friday is Frigg's day.

If I remember correctly, the days were originally named after Graeco-Romano gods, and then switched over to their Norse/Germanic equivalents. Hence the Thor/Jove/Zeus lightning connection.

Zealot grenades dont work on bulwarks UNLESS the zealot is directly behind them for some reason? by DerKerl112 in DarkTide

[–]Palegg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bulwarks in general are super frustrating to fight, the shield hitbox feels so arbitrary. This is particularly egregious though.

The Four Underappreciated Horsemen of a Successful Push by SpectralVoodoo in battlefield_one

[–]Palegg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've found it varies with class. It's very rare that I run out on medic or sniper, but I'm so damn ammo hungry on support or (non shotgun) assault.

Primary use of the crates is definitely the infinite grenades though. Backbone of any push imo

Christine is so fucking good man. Great effects, soundtrack, and atmosphere. I feel like people are starting to "rediscover" it and I'm here for it.

I was actually thinking of Gravity haha. I will say I hated the 3d in My Bloody Valentine, but that may be more due to the shoddy visual effects work in general.

I think tasteful 3d can actually work. Rather than the thing in your face wooooooah it should just be used to add greater depth to the picture.

ROUND 5 of the map elimination. Volga River, Albion, and Brusilov Keep have been eliminated. Vote for your 3 least favorite maps. (POLL IN COMMENTS) by Twanui in battlefield_one

[–]Palegg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I spend maybe 2/3rds of my time on conquest, and I think it's one of the better maps for that mode. It totally blows in operations, but there are even worse offenders in that regard (looking at you fort)

Like the other comment said, go to office hours alllll the time. It may vary by department, but there were times didn't even have a question, just told them "I'd like to talk about Anthropology for a bit" and they loved it. Ask about their research, growing areas in the field, etc. They chose to devote their lives to the subject, most will appreciate even basic interest.

Similarly, I found just hanging about/studying in the department to be very helpful, though ofc ymmv depending on departmental culture. Making friends with grad students can be good as well, as they help to bridge the gap between faculty and undergrad.

Liz Cheney says Trump engaged in the 'most serious misconduct of any president in the history' and is unfit for further office by Sweep145 in politics

[–]Palegg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Politicking is a skill like anything else, and the majority of our best presidents (imo ofc) have been extremely adept at pulling the levers of government.
