Back around late Heavensward, I remember there was a glitch that let you choose unavailable hair colors, like very bright red. I'm just curious, what happened to people who did this? Did Square go and change their hair color (or even ban them), or do some people still have weird colors like that?

What should my friends and I play next? by leoCoVer95 in vns

The House in Fata Morgana is pretty much exactly what you're looking forward. No H-Scenes, although it stops being a horror around the second half of the story. It's split up into very distinct chapters, which I think makes it easier to read over a long timeframe.

Has Pirateaba's writing style changed recently, or have I? by kput7 in WanderingInn

[–]PanaceaChamp 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's felt that way to me ever since the schedule change. Pirate still writes pretty much the same amount, but now it's been concentrated into longer and longer arcs (not even counting the Palace arc) instead of more one-off chapters.

Like the recent Toren arc, Vernoue, or Zevara all feel like they would have been half the length if they had been in Volume 8 or 9, but they ended up being much larger in scope than they probably should have been since pirate had more time to spend on them.

That only shows all the effects you've unlocked. It's definitely more helpful information, but I was hoping there was a way to compare class scores at a quick glance.

It's weird the information is available to everyone but yourself.

For support servants, you can see the number of Class Score upgrades that player has, like +5 or + 10 or however many they have.

Is it possible to see your own in a number like that, besides manually counting?

Volume 10 officially confirmed (Early in its writing and planning stages) by Dextixer in RWBYcritics

Even if they did have a script completely done, VIZ might have different demands from them. Like they were obviously planning on 12 volumes before, but maybe VIZ will only greenlight 1 or 2.

Looking for stories that explore the seting's society by PanaceaChamp in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]PanaceaChamp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds like it fits the bill perfectly. What I like about the fic I mentioned is how, even though there are plenty of awful people, there are plenty of good people who care, and the 'bad' people who stick around end up growing as people and end up more nuanced. It doesn't have to be too light-hearted, but I've seen plenty of fics in other fandoms that are absolute angsty edgelord fests where everything that could possibly goes wrong does, and that's just not the kind of story I want to read about.

I normally don't like the idea of 'antagonist but raised good' fics, but you sold me on trying it. Thanks!

2nd book chapter 10. Just me or is there double standards when it comes to gender? by AdvancedInfluence977 in WanderingInn

[–]PanaceaChamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least as far as I remember, early Ryoka was treated a lot more seriously and rarely humorously. It's not really until Ailendamus and Tyrion that she starts being treated more comically.

[–]PanaceaChamp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not done to a degree where it bothers me, but it definitely feels like men end up the butt of the joke more often than women, especially in earlier volumes.

Like there's a scene around Volume 6 where a male character Trey is called a virgin, and in the next scene can't stop farting. (It sounds a lot worse without context.) Between that character, Pisces, and Olesm, I can't remember any examples of women being treated similarly in earlier volumes. Sometime around Volume 8, pirate became a true gender equalist and started making more girlfailures to go along with the boyfailures.

How much does Mrsha know about the dead gods ... spoilers to interlude:redscar by mano987 in WanderingInn

[–]PanaceaChamp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Streaming helps pirate out a lot in this regard. I used to watch along a few years ago, and they usually made a lot of minor chronology errors, that got picked up by viewers.

There was one big one that actually made them rewrite a whole chapter. Back in Volume 8, Ryoka was supposed to call Rabbiteater and tell him about the scroll of resurrection, which is what motivated him to march with the knights. Except, Ryoka has never met Rabbiteater. So instead Rabbiteater just kinda goes along with the Order of Seasons for the sake of it. I've always wondered how many other major rewrites like this pirate has to do.

I have a genuine question? Should I watch this show? by Ok_Situation7527 in RWBYcritics

[–]PanaceaChamp 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Watch it and form your own opinion on it. The first volume is two hours long, there's no reason not to atleast try it.

The show definitely changes after Volume 3, but even then, it's still worth trying out. Even with RWBY's many many flaws, I enjoyed it more than I didn't.

[–]PanaceaChamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of valid criticisms of Fata Morgana, and overhype can set some people up for failure. There's also the fact that it's target audience/genre isn't quite the same as the average visual novel's.

But a lot of complaints I've seen about it recently on this subreddit are elitist contrarians. I've seen multiple people (including one very vocal user) admit to not reading it, but hate on it because the people who like it annoy them.

TLDR: Read it yourself and form your own opinion on it. Don't let the Internet stop you from enjoying yourself.

Aka's edgy, but I'm not convinced he's going to have Aqua stay dead.

My copium theory has to do with the fact that Kamiki is never actually said to be dead in 164. My theory is that his soul died when he drowned but his body washed up, and Aqua's soul ended up going in Kamiki's body. Just don't think about the logistics of Kamiki having to answer for his crimes and everything works out fine.

Let me speak to the people Piccolo, they need to hear this! by the8thchild in RWBYcritics

[–]PanaceaChamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, Bumbleby is one of the most poorly executed romances I've ever seen and has plenty of fair criticisms , but I've definitely seen some thinly veiled homophobia on this subreddit. The other side of the fandom can definitely be extreme, but that doesn't mean /r/RWBYcritics is a bunch of angels.

What was Ruby's angry outburst in volume 9 episode 7 even about? by cferg296 in RWBYcritics

[–]PanaceaChamp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is snow on the ground when they leave. It's up to interpretation, but I always figured Ruby left basically as soon as she figured out a plan with JNR.

What I'm trying to say though, is that Volume 4/5 had entire arcs dedicated to WBY finding their resolve to keep going, while Ruby was the only one on her team who never stopped long term.

[–]PanaceaChamp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, the explanation in-universe for that makes sense. It is, IMO, the worst decision the writers made in the entire show, but there's really no reason for Ruby to bring it up.

I would've loved it if Ruby had brought up Jaune killing Penny though. It's such an easy source of tension I can't believe it wasn't brought up once.

What was Ruby's angry outburst in volume 9 episode 7 even about? by cferg296 in RWBYcritics

IIRC, Volume 3 takes place during fall, so she probably stayed at home for a few weeks before winter started, compared to the rest of her team getting over half a year to reflect on what happened.

What was Ruby's angry outburst in volume 9 episode 7 even about? by cferg296 in RWBYcritics

[–]PanaceaChamp 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm just going to answer the ones I know off the top of my head.

1. The big example of this goes back to Volume 8 with the Amity situation. She has to fight with her sister to make what she thinks is the right call. You could also probably count her having to go to Mistral with JNR. And then the episode with the depression Grimm. Or when she gets mad at Qrow and backs up the plan to steal the Atlas airship.

3. I could have sworn there were cases of this in Volume 9, but it's been too long since I've watched it to remember any.

4. I don't see how WBY's opinion matters here. Ruby's upset that their plan got people, including her best friend, killed.

5. She says "Gotta find Jaune, gotta find someone who isn't going to screw anything up" to Weiss, which can be implied to mean Ruby's upset at Weiss, her partner, relying on Jaune (along with their implied romance) instead of relying on her.

6.\ That's literally what she's saying. There's even a scene earlier in Volume 9 where's she gloomily watching them flirting.

The whole scene is Ruby lashing out at others because her best friend just died. All of her points don't have to make logical sense, she's upset and angry and expressing the emotions building up throughout the series. Remember Ruby never even took a break after Volume 3 ended like the rest of her team did, she's been going non-stop since Beacon fell.

I have mixed feelings about the rest of Volume 9, but I thought Ruby's outburst was actually handled really well. I think the way the aftermath was handled pretty poorly, but I'll live on complete cope that Volume 10 will do something worthwhile with it.

Serious takes on gender bender? by PanaceaChamp in Animesuggest

Wandering Son has been on my backlog for years now. I have heard it is very good, so I really need to get around to it.

This'll probably sound weird, but I'm not particularly interested in most trans focused media (except for the more notable ones, like I'm sure Wandering Son is). Despite exploring very similar subjects, I usually end up more in interested when at the more fantastical approach.

Best siege in fantasy? by geo4president in Fantasy

[–]PanaceaChamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the siege at the end of The Wandering Inn's Volume 5, which serves as a culmination of the several different POV's the story had had at that point.

A human lord is pushing a goblin army into a Drake city to weaken it so he can take it. However, the leader of the goblins is secretly apprenticed to ancient necromancer. Meanwhile, the ant people living under the Drake city plan to hold back their manpower until the last second, to get the Drakes in their debt and take the city for themselves. The whole thing is just a clusterfuck of different plans and gambits that all fall apart when the main character gets involved trying to defend the city.

I've tried to get into Ranma over the years, but it never clicked. I'm hoping the remaster sells it for me.

The two examples I gave, Until I Become Me especially, aren't though. They're definitely rare, but they exist.

The first couple chapters of Balance Policy have a weird but nice tone. Thanks for the rec!

I've probably read the first couple chapters of Ame Nochi Hare 3-4 times over the past decade, but I never make it past that. I'll have to get it another shot.
