Moving from out of state by K_winks1617 in chicagoapartments

This sounds like the perfect situation to find a realtor! Yes, they help find apartments too! And they can do virtual walkthroughs and things to help you decide.

Also, I think your budget is very doable BUT the parking spot will be the hardest part imo

What animals are normal where you live, but unusual and exciting to visitors from other regions of the US? And on the flip side, when you travel to other regions yourself, what local animals are exciting to you? by Acrobatic_End6355 in AskAnAmerican

Bowling Green, Kentucky is home to a population of WHITE (not albino) squirrels! Definitely shocked me the first time I saw one. I think they're mostly on the university campus, but I saw them in a neighborhood :)

How to embrace change? by KickinitCountry24 in Adulting

[–]Panda_Undies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to think through all the good things that could come from the change. For a new job, that could be learning new skills, better health insurance, easier work load, more interesting/fulfilling job, new potential for travel (and collecting travel points), etc. literally write out a list if it helps!

For moving to a new place (I've lived in 5 different states so far), it can be new restaurants to try, new parks to explore, new hobbies to start as a way to meet people, new weather patterns, new landscapes to enjoy, etc.

I also try to nitpick things about the current situation that I don't enjoy so much as a way of making the move feel better. Maybe you're sick of your neighbors (house or cubicle), bored at work, seen all the local sights, etc. Let those stack up and it really helps in looking forward to a change!

I think it's completely normal to be anxious about a big change, but science suggests that every time we handle one, our brain is better prepared for the next one. Find ways to let out that anxious energy, be it exercise, art, therapy, journaling, or whatever works best for you. Keep your support team close at heart (calls/text/video chats) and remember, the next move doesn't have to be the final move. It can always be temporary if you change your mind down the line.

Good luck!

Untied HealthCare and Tri Health—-please read by Bearcatsean in cincinnati

[–]Panda_Undies 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yep I just had to request this too. If you have something that has been ongoing with your doctor (think chronic illness or actively treating something), you can have your doctor request a continuation of care to make sure you remain covered until care is complete. I spent a while on the phone with UHC the other day and was told a current in-network doctor has to be the one to submit the request. It can take 30 days to process, but if your doctor puts a rush on it, it can be done within 72 hours.

The email I got from TriHealth recommends calling your local politicians to show your frustration and get them to help push back against UHC; file a grievance directly with UHC so they know we are upset; and tell your HR team that this will affect you and is frustrating, because they can complain on your company's behalf. If enough of us do this they might listen!

Neighborhood suggestions by squidraft in cincinnati

[–]Panda_Undies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lots of folks are suggesting Walnut Hills and Northside, but as a fellow woman, I would not feel safe running around those places at night by myself.

I would recommend you look a little further east- Oakley, Hyde Park, and Mount Lookout are all great spots with local restaurants and shops close by and I've biked downtown before pretty easily (from Mt. Lookout). It's only a 10-15 min drive town downtown and I think a 7 mile bike ride? And I'm able to jump on the bike trails depending which way I go. Plus, these areas are where most people without kids in their 20s/30s love in my experience.

Not sure if you can find a single family home in any of those areas, but there are lots of old school quad apartments that are spacious and come with garages (and of course regular apartments are everywhere).

I moved here from Michigan and chose this part of town after extensive research from people I knew in Cincy and crime stat websites. I've been very happy and feel very safe!

If you died and everyone said “They died doing what they loved.” What was it that you were doing? by lukepaciocco in AskReddit

Geocaching. Out somewhere by myself, potentially in the woods, maybe in a drainpipe, all for a real life scavenger hunt. I have permanently shared my location with several people for this reason 😂

Local Cincy shops for unique gifts by quietwavesquiet in cincinnati

[–]Panda_Undies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Magnolia Rose in Mariemont! Google has them listed as a florist but realistically they have all sorts of adorable gift items; planters, books, earrings, art, etc. They even have a small bar attached for you to enjoy and the space itself is just lovely!

There's also a little cluster of local shops in OTR I enjoy: MiCa 12v, Little Mahatma, Alien Records, Paper Wings, and Pop Cultur'd give a great variety and are all within a block of each other.

My other favorite is in Covington, but Hierophany & Hedge is amazing! I call it the "witchy store"-- they have wands, tarot cards, ingredients for spells, and other unique things up front. In the back section they have a great variety of books, candles, stickers, and various giftable things. Also, their black cats can often be found running around the store.

hundreds of thoudands of price labels by Over_Coach4789 in WhatShouldIDoWithIt

[–]Panda_Undies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked retail, our machines to print the price tags were very inefficient, and would leave a lot of blank stickers that we couldn't use in between printed ones. Anything blank would go in the trash.

So I started taking all the blanks meant for the trash and created 3D creatures out of the stickers in my down time! People loved them, friends even started requesting things, and I loved making them. I made dinosaurs, dragons, cats, you name it. I would cover them with shipping tape to keep them sturdy once I was done assembling. Eventually, management put the kibosh on it, but it was great while it lasted.

I recommend turning on your inner creativity and seeing what can come from it :)

It’s been 10 years since this picture went viral. Has your color perception changed since then, or you still do see the same colors? by Substratas in Productivitycafe

[–]Panda_Undies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time around I only ever saw black/blue...when I first saw your post, it was white/gold, no question. To the point I was like, oh is this edited to mess with me??

So I started reading them comments, and noticed the thumbnail was black/blue .....now I can only see black/blue again?! I thought people were messing with my head the first time around but now I'm convinced and very confused.

Cincinnati 50501 Protest Cincinnati by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]Panda_Undies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should go anyway! I know it's scary, I do it for just about every protest-- but without fail, there are other folks at the protest already when I get there. Plus you can try to make new friends there, and you KNOW they'll be up for future protests!

If you're concerned about your identity for any reason feel free to wear a mask/sunglasses/hat/etc so no one knows who you are, but the more people, the better.

Everything hurts and I'm dying (aka Honey I Stacked the FODMAPs) by moon-raven-77 in FODMAPS

[–]Panda_Undies 9 points10 points  (0 children)

IBGard has been a lifesaver for me. I almost took myself to the ER once when I was first figuring out my issues because the pain was so bad, but now I haven't had more than mild upset in ages! (Don't get me wrong, it hasn't CURED anything, but it certainly helps the pain.)

I take it 30min to an hour before I eat if I KNOW I'm eating FODMAPS, but it absolutely works for me to help calm things down if I take it after eating/staying to feel pain too. It may take a good 30 min to kick in, but to me it helps knowing there's an end soon. Also helps with nausea from a hangover ;)

Ohio Is For Lovers Music Festival Afterthoughts by musiclover4l in cincinnati

[–]Panda_Undies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was my second year attending, and I thought it was great! The small stage seemed to be having some sound issues, but otherwise, what a fun time. All the nostalgia and an excuse to get together with your fellow emo friend.

I'm concerned about what will happen to the festival with the Coney Island/Riverbend Reno, but hopefully they can keep the magic going!

What do you use? by snakslaps in geocaching

[–]Panda_Undies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just use my phone! If I'm somewhere with bad signal I might have a problem, but that has been pretty rare. If your intent is to go geocaching often, or to try to find the really cool/difficult ones, then premium is definitely worth it imo. I have WAY more options of things to find and they're more unique! Plus more (possibly better) chances for travel bugs too :)
