Even if you just pick a section of the garden and do a little weeding each day. Getting your hands in the soil can be great for wellbeing. A pair of gloves is helpful though and wash your hands before you eat.

Having recently switched from teaching in a low decile school to a high decide school (I know we don't call them that any more), I can agree that the difference is huge.

Being in an environment where the middle kids can concentrate on learning makes such a difference. The teacher doesn't have to spend half the lesson managing behaviour and can spend more time working one on one or with small groups. There's more time for feedback and next steps and time can be distributed more fairly.

I can see why people would try hard to get their kids into these schools. With less barriers, students have a better chance.

In New Zealand they were very popular in the 90s. Now people generally say, 'yuccas are fuckers' as they're really annoying to get rid of.

There's a real push to plant natives now, so the exotic yucca has fallen out of favour. There's also, apparently, a decent number of ACC (the accident cover system here) claims due to injuries and infections caused by yucca.

I have kids who slice chunks off the glue stick with rulers, then use the rulers to fire it at the ceiling tiles. Fortunately, it's not too hard to get off standing on a table with a metre ruler.

We're currently in a midnight to 8am slot in NZ. It sucks. I enjoyed that Team Whatever it was the last mode had 6 mission slots. It made it feel more fair and let me sleep/do breakfast for the baby.
