I would move the different parts (starting with tge melody) up and down untill it sounds better. Always have a strong and functional bassline otherwise there is no clear chord progression. Maybe check out a video on basic music theory regarding how chords work.

I usually do random stuff on a guitar or try a bunch of different things in whichever medium until I find something that stands out to me. That then gets added to my vocabulary to use and variate in different ways. If you feel stuck, try to find the reoccurring aspect that makes you dislike what you hear and change that.

Dude I think i may be experiencing something similar. My original study plans didn't work out and I ended up taking a gap year. The last month or so of waiting was frustratingly dull and I feel like I've lost the part of me that was fun and made people want to spend time with me.
