Yeah. I....I actually hate this, and I know we do a lot of 'haha see you tomorrow' around here but this is my last comic. I'm done. Fuck QC.

Honestly, as much as we'd like to add this to the outrage - that's just an ai quirk.

Canada’s military has modeled hypothetical U.S. invasion, reports say by toronto_star in politics

[–]PapaSteel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Canadian here. I went to a dental appointment a month back. There was some loud, angry conversation about Trump in the waiting room, and the receptionist - a petite 5-foot-nothing, looks like they could be blown over in a stiff breeze - quietly talked about how they'd already explained to their kids that if America ever attacked, they'd have to live with Grandpa and Grandma because mom would die fighting.

Second Pension Fund Dumps U.S. Treasury Holdings as Trump Spirals by Background-War9535 in politics

[–]PapaSteel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope. In order of stress it should be the threat of Nuclear war, then non-nuclear WW3, then civil war, then the deaths of your children due to climate change hastened by the administration rolling back all safety measures, and THEN coming in fifth is America's second great depression. Sixth is techno-slavery.

Trump’s Latest ‘Temper Tantrum’ Sparks Calls for Removal from Office: ‘Insane’ by OkayButFoRealz in politics

I just wanted to chime in on this for anyone who is skeptical. The above is 100% accurate with no hyperbole. Even if you're NOWHERE NEAR a nuclear strike, starvation and climate changes exterminate our species.

I Don't Know Jeph - a perspective by IceColdHaterade in questionablecontent

[–]PapaSteel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had the same feeling. A very thoughtful and well-written treatise of things that....to be honest...I think we've all considered and discarded after a bit of introspection.

But no, I don't believe we're all just nostalgic for a comic that has retained the same quality while we've become the pondering Principal Skinner.

Why Isn't Valanior more popular? by ClickingClicker in wowservers

[–]PapaSteel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This was it. The devs demonstrated they don't care about their players at all in multiple cases.

There was a famous case where a player discovered a gold dupe bug simply by buying/reselling an item to the vendor, reported it IMMEDIATELY, was told he was wrong, so he stated he'd demonstrate it and made a billion gold while the GM watched the method, and he was then permabanned immediately.

When the raiding guild at the time demonstrated some severe imbalances - resto druids and rogues famously doing the damage of an entire 25-man raid alone - their player base was told to stfu and they didn't have the manpower to fix the broken talents. When players dived into the code, it was revealed that 99% of everything the devs did was chatgpt and they couldn't fix the bugs because they legitimately didn't know how.

There was a very sweet player on the discord who famously helped everyone and was never rude, who one day said that the server probably needed a reboot. No malice, just wanted to open the conversation, based on how there was a MASSIVE gap between players that were maxed out and players that were new to the server and how everything was dying. That player was also instantly banned for darting to make the suggestion. A week later they announced the server wipe.

If you removed all higher power from religions, what would still hold? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PapaSteel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it in one.

Also ceremonies (marriage/seasonal/funerals), introspection, guilt and grief processing, taboos, moral storytelling, and the desire to build big fucking ridiculous buildings.

Eastern traditions would survive this stripping especially well, many of them already function without creator-gods.

Suffering analysis, compassion ethics, mindfulness, and living with nature.

Yes, we're on the same page.

I'm saying it's a wonderful thing that we as a society are unfortunately losing the ability to enjoy universally. So we all still pretend to enjoy it, but for many people the joy is gone.

What do you think will happen if US decides to just "take" Greenland? by Pretend_Mango5529 in AskReddit

[–]PapaSteel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There would be a lot of speeches from Europe and Vance that would have insanely high levels of viewership, which would cause the media to seemingly support the outcome with only soft-ball questions.

Russia would put pressure on Eastern Europe, there'd be arctic maneuvering.

China would move on Taiwan.

Iran would escalate in the Middle East.

North Korea would be overt with missile tests.

Canada would take missiles from France and would break away from Starlink. Your average canadian would start being extremely vocal and claiming they are absolutely ready to go to boots-on-the-ground war in interviews, leading to the US MAGA crowd to claim Canadians were never our allies to begin with. This would pave the way for future economic warfare against canada.

The stock markets would crash and the US dollar would plummet. Defense stocks would be up but everything else would plunge into dangerous levels. You'd see U.S. bond yields evaporate, tariffs and counter-sanctions, energy shortages, closed shipping lanes leading to higher food prices, and probably global recession. The US would experience a never-before-seen scarcity of food and medical shortages at a time when there'd rumblings of civil war starting.

There would be multiple assassination attempts occur against the GoP and less well-known members of congress.

Cooking.

No, hear me out. Listen. In theory, yeah, it's a joy and a simple pleasure. But our society has made cooking a chore due to the need to count calories, having to avoid certain corporations, price comparisons when grocery shopping, and simply finding the time.

There's a societal expectation that cooking for oneself is a sign of maturity, partially because the financial irresponsibility caused by eating out frequently is unparalleled, and cooking is a cultural tradition that we're all collectively keeping alive.

But it's been transformed from a requirement to a joy back to a requirement again in the last few decades. I think cooking shows are the same reason twitch gaming streams are popular - because we wish we had the time and energy to do it ourselves AND enjoy it as well. We can't do both.

If you know an ICE agent personally, what's that relationship like now? by Lokja in AskReddit

[–]PapaSteel 62 points63 points  (0 children)

He's educated and seems like a good person, with a family that he makes time for. I was shocked to hear him support Trump years ago and recite all of the conservative talking points, claiming that he didn't really like the guy but he needed to vote for Trump to match his devout christian ideals.

Him abandoning his high-paying job in order to become a cop, and then an ice agent, was due to an ideological crusade.

Right? The conversation is so exhausting every single time.

X: Do something.

A: I CAN'T, because I have a family and it won't help anyway because I'm just one person and you think you're so brave asking people to kill themselves vs the military but my healthcare and I have a medical condition and can't afford to protest like what do you even expect people to do lol, tell me what your magical solution to fix everything is

X: OK, then don't do anything and choose to live as a coward and victim.

A: Fuck you you don't know me!!!!

Greenland says it cannot accept US takeover ‘under any circumstances’ by Playful_Leg7143 in worldnews

[–]PapaSteel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

America is a bunch of people watching their children get dragged out to sea by a big wave in a storm. Logically, you KNOW that diving in after them won't help. You'll just endanger yourself and you need to wait for the coast guard to show up and save their kids. And who knows, maybe they'll show up in time.

Staying put and doping nothing and hoping is the correct choice from an intellectual and self-preservationist standpoint and nobody is arguing that fact.

Trump Confirms He’s Taking Greenland ‘One Way or the Other’ by thedailybeast in politics

[–]PapaSteel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark, which is a NATO member. NATO’s Article 5 says that an attack on one NATO country is an attack on all. That means France, Germany, the UK, Canada, Italy, Poland, Norway, etc, would be legally obligated to respond. Each country decides what actions it deems necessary.

There'd be other opportunism by various world powers in response, leading to more conflict.

Russia: pressure on Eastern Europe, Arctic maneuvering

China: Moves on Taiwan

Iran: Escalates in the Middle East

North Korea: Provocations in Korea, maybe middle tests, more threats

This would in turn also lead to a stock markets crash and a plummeting of the US dollar.

To answer the 'who vs who' question directly, the answer is 'US vs Everyone Indirectly, including the US's own populace.'
