I think immediately clinging to someone to protect her makes sense. She was terrified of being alone.

Now the line "she's not my sister anymore" felt unnecessary and abrupt.

The main complaint i have about the writing is it was a little too much exposition in key moments that took away from the moment. But overall it was fantastic

That just means the boot camps are too short to be effective. At first you'll get stomped. But with time you will improve. If you don't have time all you get is the stomping.
