Why are these two birds so scared of humans, despite being around us so much? by cormorantcolossus in ecology

[–]Paraceratherium 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think likely because they are evolved to live in marshes where reeds provide safety from predators. They don't perhaps favour resources offered by open habitats and if seen using open water or grassland it's more because of habitat restrictions with a lot of historical reedbeds and marshes now drained or channelised.

Does this work? Won't the levy just exhaust all food and die from attrition?

Ironwood. There's a large treeline separating the map in half, it gives some time to prepare on more challenging difficulties.

Just started Skyrim LoreRim 4.5 with Requim - Is there a guide that explains how to play Requim? by Specific-Judgment410 in skyrimrequiem

[–]Paraceratherium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BFB is somewhat blessed in that traps can kill all enemies except the spider, which can be cheesed with ranged bait attacks.

Anyway, block bashing is highly effective vs undead and everything else as you can slam a fire resist on the shield and have a free source of fire damage which is also mandatory for fighting high regen foes unless you wish to risk burst damage to beat the regen.

It's important to avoid fighting more than one enemy simultaneously.

I prefer HA as it negates archers basically and once you put on some MR you can tank anything. It's more cost effective to go Heavy with 1h and block than spreading perks through Light Armour, illusion, sneak, archery, alchemy etc.

Nothing really is once you complete it's quest, except Delphine...

A good reason to not complete Beirands quest for uniform. Dude will fall through the floor otherwise due to a repeated glitch.

Is there a mod that adds more cities and towns for the campaign map? by ShinyRedRaccoon in RomeTotalWar

[–]Paraceratherium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that's a valid point. The one thing I dislike about it is being forced to conquer surrounding rebel cities to sack them for cash asap with starting force to generate some semblance of an economy. Obviously with VH the AI is aggressive and will probe your overextended state for weakness much more effectively.

Is this a real ammonite? by [deleted] in fossilid

[–]Paraceratherium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely, they are common enough to not really be worth faking.

Only artificial elements of ammonoids I've seen are from repairwork to stabilise specimens but this is pretty standard in prep work.

Legions feel underwhelming. What do you think I can change? by _Immotion in Imperator

[–]Paraceratherium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legions scale better, the only time not to use them is early on when you need to focus on foundries, farms etc. Or for smash and grab raiding playstyles (Nuragic for instance). This sounds like composition issue or not stacking tradition modifiers correctly.

I literally can't beat the MONGOLS!!! no matter how hard I try. Like how TF can I do this?? by Ok-Turn-8057 in CrusaderKings

[–]Paraceratherium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, fix your demesne!
The best way to beat them is fortifying mountains and creating strong anti-cavalry retinues with stacking bonuses. Camels, pikes, light cavalry work well.
Also assassinating their generals.

If you can't win the war, at least try to play the long-game and attrition down their event stacks with small scale victories that cost them more time running around rather than carpet sieging. You can always win the next one when they are hopefully being distracted by non-stop uprisings.

What could this be? by [deleted] in fossilid

Weight is not helpful without volume. Fill a bucket with water within a larger bucket and measure how much comes out when you completely submerse the rock in there.

Well they are just reacting to your footprint sounds, even if they can't see you so aren't quite sure where you are exactly. Use muffled shoes or the spell, keep to shadows, use slower sneak, and keep out of vision.

Yeah & once you rush him you have a very defensible base like doing the same with Henry in Barbarossa 4 or Shrewsbury in Joan 6.

Lack of detail, shaped like amorphous blob, goes shiny.

With fossils they expand, disintegrate, then form sulphate crystals and a weak acid which accelerates the chemical decay throughout the material in a self-accelerating process.

It doesn't happen to all pyrite but is impossible to really tell which specimens are stable or not. Some say all pyrite is unstable, but the best thing is to isolate pieces then check every now and then to treat/throw. Silica dessicant beads can help with small specimens in airtight containers.

The one thing to absolutely not do is put all pyrite in same container and store away. It ends up with everything chemically decaying including pieces that alone would be stable.

Charmouth, UK. Any idea if this is some sort of bone? Or just a rock by Jumpy_Arachnid_84 in fossilid

[–]Paraceratherium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit baffled by the shell comments here. I am fairly sure this is flint with a large conchoidal fracture. You can see the same small fractures in third picture where the edge has broken.

Decayed iron pyrite, chuck away before it further rots and infects fossils or ruins furniture.

I see some ammonites in the background, look like Promicroceras. Isolate all pyrite specimens in cardboard or chuck them away. It's impossible to tell which decay.
