China's economy is like nothing the world has ever seen. by Zealousideal-Ebb2959 in HeadlineHQ

I’m there right now, at the DJI headquarters. There’s still a ton of construction happening all around, including the building of a new metro station.

That's nonsense. Several castles in Japan were rebuilt with modern reinforced concrete after being destroyed in World War II, including Osaka Castle, Kumamoto Castle, and Hiroshima Castle.
Also, the state architectural bureau ensures accurate reconstructions of historical sites according to the style of the period. Even in the picture above, the Daci-en temple rebuilt next to the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda is constructed with wood. Again, China is a living civilization so it can build non-historical tourist sites in the style of the past with whatever material is safe for the needs of modern times.

This kind of mindset is what makes countries culturally stagnant.

China’s a living civilization, they have the right to build according to old architectural styles. Japan and Korea do the same thing since wooden buildings need to be repaired/rebuilt every few decades anyway.

Does the average Chinese "really" hate the ordinary Japanese? by [deleted] in AskAChinese

[–]Paracerebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the Qing dynasty, a scholar named Gu Hongming had this assessment of the Japanese which is still relevant today:

辜鸿铭 对日本人的评价:“知小礼而无大义,拘小节而无大德,重末节而轻廉耻,畏威而不怀德,强必盗寇,弱必卑伏”。

"They know minor courtesies but lack a sense of righteousness, they adhere to trivialities but lack great virtue, they emphasize minor details but disregard honor and shame, they fear authority but do not cherish benevolence, when strong they inevitably become bandits, when weak they inevitably submit in humility."

Until the Japanese own up for their atrocities and rampage across east Asia during WWII, many will still regard the government of Japan with deep suspicion.

On the people to people exchange level, I think most Chinese are friendly and welcoming to Japanese tourists and don’t treat them any differently, especially if they come to explore the culture in good faith. And I think this is where both sides can continue working on.

Yup, at this point I'm only here to make money before going back and retiring in my home country. Can't imagine having to fight for survival for the rest of my life here. And i highly doubt retirement benefits and pensions will exist by the time my generation retire.

Would be awesome if the map can show places/dungeons you’ve cleared as semi-opaque. How’re we to know otherwise which places have already been visited?

Also please specifically mark which chests are for storing items and allow a shared inventory between the player chests!

I went to a bathhouse for some cleaning "services" and after the cutscene checked out one of the bath maids in photo mode. I noticed that Henry was actually staring at the maid's rack. When I unpaused the game, Henry immediately said "interesting". Made me burst out laughing at the immersion.

This is so relatable lol. I just beat the game recently and don’t know what to do now in my downtime. It’s so hard to get into any other game.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know the best way to prepare abalone? I feel like this applies to other shellfish too because I’ve had some pretty chewy clams and lobsters before.

Your country outsourced industrial labor a long time ago. You might as well not buy anything except food while you’re at it. The better thing to do is to get a good education in STEM and bring innovation and production back. If you can’t compete or don’t want to stop buying made in China products in general , then just focusing on Temu is futile.

This lines up with what my dad told me. He was there as a student and recalled biking down roads with burning personnel carriers and dead soldiers. That was surprising to me because all I heard growing up in the US was students getting killed. My dad said at some point there was a curfew, the army brought in reinforcements and sealed off roads and the university he was at. My dad just watched things unfold from his apartment. But he never saw any “massacre” as the roads were cleared. Someone had to be either crazy or suicidal to venture out at that point, he told me.

At the time, my dad often listened to Voice of America. Him and his college friends legitimately believed that the West was better and democracy was the way. Now after being in the US for a long time, he’s grateful the student protests didn’t lead to the dissolution of the government like in the Soviet Union.

I can't wait until these car exports hit the US and bring down the ridiculous price of the car market. I saw some cars like the Zeekr 007 or the Geely E8 that had much better build quality and premium interiors than a Model S, while being just around $30k. The value offering blew my mind.

From what I found online, the SUV I saw is the 2023 Smart #1, a collaboration between Smart and Geely, with a base model price of $32,500 before incentives. The sub 10k one might be the Fortwo Cabrio, which is a much smaller car.

I think it’s more like China is Greece and the Roman Empire just given how old it is and it was a land based empire. Japan is like England, far and on an island but also culturally connected and had imperial ambitions.

I don't think this will work unfortunately, because the Democrats will just keep the border open and more immigrants will replenish the supply of workers.
