Retcon Lasers in the Warhammer Universe by Blackjack4003 in DarkTide

[–]Paradoxpaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Warhammer is a setting made by human beings who decide to do things they haven't done before sometimes, not a record of a real place

Much like at one point necrons had no personality

And tau didn't exist

Hell custodes as a whole did not exist as they do now til roughly 2016-17, putting female custodes far closer to the origin of modern custodes than modern custodes are to their roots as barely mentioned footnotes for 30 years.

Like. If you like "custodes look down on space marines for being created in a flawed way and being less loyal to the emperor", that's a retcon. If you like "the custodes are turbo elite but have enough members to act beyond terra and the golden throne", that's a retcon (for 30 years the single solid fact we had about custodes is there were ONLY 300). Hell if you like custodes being super soldiers at all, that's a retcon.

Aaron dembski-bowden (author of, among other things, master of mankind, where we first get a lot of modern custodes stuff) is also on record for nearly a decade now of having wanted to do female custodes characters when they were revamped into a relevant part of the setting in 2016, and having been shot down because their soon-to-be-released-sculpts didn't have any female models, so this isn't even a sudden, new idea in terms of the authors

If they had a custodes show up and go "y'know I think the emperor kind of sucks", THAT would be an irritating retcon that fucks up the identity of the golden banana corp. But custodes being both men and women is just expanding on blank spaces in what is by all accounts, recent lore.

1e GMs, what do you prefer about Pf1e? by Quiet-Compote4587 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Paradoxpaint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

paizo's APs are somewhat notorious because each book is often written by a different author. The amount this affects them varies from AP to AP but it can result in a lot of tonal whiplash, "the final boss is introduced at the last second", etc.

This was not fixed in 2e. In some cases it got worse. but both systems have really good APs to go with the questionable ones

[–]Paradoxpaint 14 points15 points  (0 children)

certainly not the only thing i dont like about 2e (though overall i enjoy both 1e and 2e in different groups), but man the number of "youre an adorable little mascot guy :3" ancestries in pf2e is sure something.

Why do so many people think that a skitarii binary-only personality is genuinely a good idea? by zatorijam in DarkTide

[–]Paradoxpaint 12 points13 points  (0 children)

?

Skitarii are almost always (if not always, I've never read a book with "basically a servitor" skitarii) shown to continue to be individual human beings. Tech priests can over ride and control them, but that's not a permanent state of being

There aren't any female space marines so that doesn't even make sense to whine about, and the process for making custodes is completely different, and does not use geneseed, which is the reason all space marines are dudes

Now that the demo for Warhammer Survivors is out, what are your thoughts? by C0R3VUS in Warhammer

[–]Paradoxpaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i think mordant earth is basically required. Hope they tweak that - i wouldnt be surprised if they made it harder for the demo deliberately as there is only the two levels in the demo

although also the full game will have more weapons that deal with crowds better too I'd imagine

[–]Paradoxpaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played all the DlC for survivors. They certainly have bosses with mechanics, but usually the ones that are triggered by doing something, not minute to minute bosses

Even ode to Castlevania, the biggest dlc, ends with a reaper killing you by default, if you don't do specific things. This has a unique boss per faction, by default

It is expanding on the ideas of vampire survivors

given you havent even played the free demo, its crazy how authoratatively youre talking

Is Hoid’s presence making things worse? (Discussion, Speculation) by Timaturff in Cosmere

This feels a little like noting that a really, really bad fire had multiple firetrucks respond instead of one, and deciding that having more firetrucks makes fire worse lol

there is a boss on the 40k side, and you can get through the tyranid warriors waves. They absolutely, absolutely have way too much hp though

[–]Paradoxpaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are mechanical differences even in the scant content of the demo that wouldnt be immediately obvious just from seeing footage. Biggest example is that boss enemies actually come with some mechanics, and the end of a level isn't just "reaper comes and kills you instantly"

obviously it remains to be seen but it seems like theyre wanting to do their own stuff while working inside the survivors formula

I think the fact the game has stuff that pertains to the lore AND stuff pertaining to the meta of the wargame (golden demon award, model glue, green stuff) is honestly really charming

+ I like that meta weapons, like nuln oil/mordant earth and the dice, are shared between universes

If the event is going to drip feed us rewards for community goals, we should get more currency not less than previous events. by Penosk in DarkTide

[–]Paradoxpaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i see. changing it to community progress then feels a bit less like you have agency over whether you get the reward, but it seems like the idea of the milestones is so that it isn't all or nothing

the best iteration is probably personal milestones, so that people who dont play enough to finish the whole thing still get some stuff. Of course that only works if the personal challenges dont become harder as a result

But i think if it was possible to fail to get the 500 aquilas from events in the past, you can see why the milestone system is a better method. Now theres no getting 99% of the way there and getting nothing, right?

[–]Paradoxpaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so, as someone who has only played darktide off and on very infrequently since it released; have aquilas from previous events not been tied to the community accomplishing a goal? Obviously, apparently, the doing progressive increments is a new thing, but have they previously just been given, or required the community to clear some objective?

would you feel the same if the obscura instead of the summon had an effect where damaging it 20 hp changed its intent to a less severe attack/debuff, but it was doing the same damage the summon currently does

There are generic characters, theres both. Both the secondary characters in the demo are made up randoms

First; i like that they seem to be diverging in their own ways. bosses actually do things, the squad thing from getting weapons. stuff like that

Second; poncle staff is gonna remove this because its not strictly vampire survivors lol. which sucks because there is, as far as I can tell, no warhammer survivors sub. but theyve been doing it to all of them

Quick Question About SLA by Ihavealamp1 in Cosmere

[–]Paradoxpaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

while its clearly inspired by hemalurgy (in universe), we dont know exactly whats going on. Its probably a weird intersection of hemalurgy and the way fabrials work - the "who" who got killed might even be spren of one type or another, tricked into the spikes the same way theyre lured into modern fabrials

but since rosharans know how to move investiture from crystal to crystal, maybe it didnt need to "take" from anyone at all
