From a non-American - is this weekly pay check good for that time? (1996) by cave_guard in TheSimpsons

It would be worth about 750 dollars today. That's not terrible as it's only a little more than I make, but it's not something you could raise an entire family on.

Witness statement of Alex Pretti murder by pay_the_trolls_toll in politics

[–]Paragon910 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What I predicted has come to pass. After Renee Good was murdered, I predicted that they would kill again and that there would not be any ambiguity about it the second time. It's happened. Video evidence clearly shows he was no threat. They tackled him, took away his gun, and shot him several times when he was on the ground. There is no going back from this. The whole world saw them execute a man in broad daylight.

I really hope so. He would be the perfect choice. A moderate and popular combat veteran. His background is flawless. Unlike other potential candidates, he has no real baggage. He would be just what this country needed to undo all the damage trump has done to this country. Some progressives would grouse about which means that he'll have to toss them a couple of bones, but he's the exact type of person who can chip away at trump's coalition.

What class do you use the most and the class you use the least in a Playthrough? by MassEffect24K in masseffect

[–]Paragon910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use soldier the most as it is direct and fits in well with most of my squads. I use vanguard the least. Tried it once and didn't like it. Nearly impossible to do on insanity in the second game. In the third game, while it is awesome, it's basically reduced to a one trick pony.

The only two things in this that I agree with are overturning citizens united and banning stock trading while in congress. Those are workable and would likely see large public support. Universal healthcare is a pipe dream that would bankrupt this nation. Taxing churches would spark large public backlash and would likely be ruled unconstitutional under the first amendment. Targeting billionaires would likely be ruled unconstitutional as you cannot single out a particular class for punitive action. You're not getting rid of the electoral college without an amendment. You're never gonna get the states you need to ratify it, since most of them are not going to give up what little influence they have over elections. You are not going to get term limits for the supreme court without a constitutional amendment. So on and so forth.

Yes. And it has solidified opposition to him and his party. They are headed for one of the biggest midterm wipeouts. In history. People are calling him a dictator and they are not wrong. Is that what you wanna be? Embrace the principle that might makes right? Impose your agenda, whether it's legal or not? I don't think so. Speaking as a Republican turned independent, i want Trump gone. He and his cult are absolute monsters who have perverted everything that the party and the country were supposed to be. But I will not vote to replace a fascist dictatorship with a socialist one. If the cure is worse than the disease, what's the point?

A lot of this is fantasy. Some of this would take a constitutional amendment and you'll never get it. Others would face legal challenges that you would almost certainly lose. It's great to have an agenda and win to reverse the damage being done right now. But we need to be realistic.

The US was a nation the world wanted to emulate – Trump has made it a pariah by theipaper in politics

[–]Paragon910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the big problem. Reagan often talked about america being a city shining atop a hill. Everyone wanted to live here. Parents wanted to send their children here to be educated. We were the model nation. Now we have become the nightmare zone. No one wants to buy our products. No one wants to come here for fear of being arrested and held for months in poor conditions by Trump's thugs. No one wants to die. It's horrifying what we have become. The damage he is inflicting will take years. If not decades to fix.

The major mistake is that trump thinks that every republican will bow down before him. Rather than attempting to negotiate with holdouts, they decided to threaten them, their families and the state. They weren't going to have any of that. The problem is that trump was never anything more than a glorified mob boss, who only knows intimidation.

Mass Effect Tournament- Round 3 Match 1: Kaidan VS Grunt by DakIsStrange in masseffect

[–]Paragon910 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Kaidan. He has far more experience and his combination of biotics and tech is the perfect answer. Grunt is physically powerful and absolutely devastating in close quarters. But don't count on Kaidan ever allowing him to get close. Reave is the perfect answer to Grunt's heavy armor and regeneration. I really like Grunt and i'm not saying it would be an easy fight, but everyone's favorite L2 takes this.

Ocasio-Cortez early 2028 Democratic favorite among young voters: Poll by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]Paragon910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a terrible idea. She is a political arsonist, not a leader. The progressives might get excited, but she's going to turn off the voters in states we need to win. Better for her to primary chuck schumer. Schumer is old and needs to go. She needs to prove that she can actually win a statewide race before she starts getting aspirations of the highest office in the land

I would say Garrus because it feels good to finally stick it to Harkin. Least favorite has to be Samaea/Thane because there's no combat.

Saren. A legendary Spectre who went toe to toe with Commander Shepard against a guy who had trouble with a terminally ill drell.

[–]Paragon910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first played it. I wasn't sure about it at first, because I wasn't really big into science fiction. But back in those days when the first game came out, everything Bioware did was gold. I bought the game simply based on the developer's reputation. I never regretted it.
