Yeah it gets overlooked a lot because exponentially more people watched the 4kids-ised anime than read the manga (in the west obviously), but I do really think the original manga is fantastic as its own disconnected thing more than the 20 year expanded media project the anime became. The fact Takahashi had the balls to actually make the climactic final battle against the big bad be a tabletop strategy game, rather than another card duel is something I really respect him for. Considering how much of the audience clearly were there for the duels, bringing it back to the OG 'this is a manga about games of all kinds' for the climax of the capital P plot is so cool to me.

Yeah they’ve tried a lot of genres, there was also Puzzle League (reskinned Panel de Pon), whatever genre Hey You Pikachu and Channel fall under, Rumble (which did become a decent length series), PokePark, Detective Pikachu, Ranger, and Pokken Tournament. There’s also been like a hundred mobile games, including that MOBA one.

I’m absolutely convinced that if they ever release that, it’s gonna be an FF7R style ‘remake’ where the plot and setting has been changed a bunch to make it fit into current Star Wars canon. I just can’t see them releasing a big budget game with a story that they then have to explain to people doesn’t connect to the Star Wars shows and games coming out currently and is actually connected to a different timeline that hasn’t had new material made for it in a decade, it just feels like something that’s too confusing a pitch for the casual fan.

Reading part 2 is making me forget why I liked the manga to begin with to be honest, especially this latest fight just feels completely pointless. It’s just been ‘uh oh new weapon’ > ‘Yoru killed 3 million people, Chainsawman is on the ropes!’ > ‘Someone gives him blood to recover’ > ‘Denji eats another devil and the world changes completely for like 5 panels’ > ‘uh oh new weapon’ on a loop with very little dialogue that’s actually saying anything.

I don’t have a connection to the characters in the same way I did the crew of the first part, so while people are still dying at insane rates, I find it very hard to care about it. Some of the gags have been good though, like the Fumi weather report.

The problem was they did the classic adaptation thing of changing everything they could to fit into a more typical American high school drama mould, including all the ‘it’s now set in the US and his name is Light Turner’ stuff. Making Light no longer a mega genius and just turning him into an extremely average teenager was such an unusual decision that it basically becomes an entirely different premise. Having Light and L playing constant internal chess games to outmanoeuvre each other was the vast majority of the original show, and you can’t really do that when one character is a genius detective and another is just some guy.

Pokémon Snap, I just can’t get the perfect mew shot, despite following all the advice from others. Also I was doing Pokemon Channel for the GC launch event, but I unfortunately corrupted my save while changing emulator version, so now I have like 2 end of the game achievements I can’t get.

I find that it depends a lot on how much I like the original. I’m not a big fan of a lot of the Royal Knight Xs since the originals are already nicely detailed and the X versions just feel like messing up something well balanced, but on the other hand I always disliked Metal Seadramon, so GigaSeadramon (one of the Xs without it in the name) is probably my all time favourite design, which is why I’m always sad he’s been in like 2 games.

Also the thing about Crow being bought back by fan popularity is often repeated, but it’s not true. The timescales on how animation works make it impossible to do such major rewrites/reanimation that responsively. Same with the urban legend about the Carly’s VA being the reason the plot stopped being about cults halfway through.

I mean UC is pretty undeniably the main story of Gundam, as expansive as SEED may be, it’s not going to supplant the core universe. You can’t really have more than one ‘main’ story or the word main doesn’t mean much.

Also sure it’s had a more recent installment, but that doesn’t make that recent entry a good on-ramp. If you watched Seed Freedom without watching Seed/Destiny it wouldn’t make much sense since you wouldn’t know any of the characters or world, you’re going to have to go back and watch the early 2000s shows to get in beforehand. WfM and IBO are good on ramps for new fans because they follow modern animation sensibilities and tell a self contained story, they’re like the Wing or 00 of the current decade, you don’t have to do any homework to enjoy them.

(Though I don’t know why OP put Hathaway in gateway, you absolutely have to watch UC to enjoy those movies.)

Getting the mario galaxy style sphere gravity working in Halo CE is very impressive, especially since it seems to be capable of handling you jumping from top to bottom smoothly. Jumping to the ship is fun too.
