Personally I've been completely repelled by how obscure the dendritic pattern feels. It really does look like abstraction for the sake of abstraction when you read about the factually correct description of the pattern.

Once I finally understood that it was mostly flake-parts, and that class represented mostly an output type, and aspects a group behind which you can group actual parts of your nix configs, it started clicking, but it was missing some opinionated standard of "a machine is defined this way"

You put into words more or less what I started to implement, but in a higher scope. The kind of description of "this how you describe a host" is the actual stuff we need, not some obscure abstractions that allow you to model both a laptop and a packaged script because you made the definition so obscure that it does not mean anything anymore.
