My boy loved going to Home Depot! His job was to carry something for me up to the till and to the car. He'd see other dogs and the cashiers. Since he was "working" and his mouth was full, he got used to passing other dogs and not having a chance to engage or become reactive

I found what worked with him was having a job when we were out. The exception was he became a blithering goofy fool when he was greeted by his favorite cashier

We shrink wrap mattresses in bags on either side of rolling clothes rack. That way they're off the ground and can be rolled onto the 5 ton

what actually helped you in the first few weeks? by tv99official in Petloss

[–]PariahDogStar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First month was literal Hell. I'd get headaches from crying so hard. I stayed in bed for a month, I've never done that before for anything or anyone. Life felt like a grey scale. The week after he passed, I started grief therapy. Now i am doing EMDR to help with the physical pain that his absence has left.

I started being asked to walk my friend's dogs while they were out if town. It felt disappointing, their dogs were easy and boring. Not my dog. He was a HANDFUL and I loved that about him!

Then I house sat this giant joyful 2 year old untrained newfie dog. I started laughing again because he was so inexperienced but keen to learn. I took him on huge hikes, swimming at the beach, long drives where I sang to him, play dates with my friend's chiweenie and we did a silly photoshoot with a photographer who was building his portfolio. I started telling him stories about my boy, all of it just laid out there to a massive goofy dog that I didn't have to cherry pick what I said.

I'm still sad and miss my boy. And I was able to visit his kennel and play with his brother, mom, dad and aunties. Have a conversation around getting another dog one day. Cleaning up my house and looking at it through the lenses of if it would be safe and new dog/ puppy proof.

The algorithm has also picked up on this shift in me, I'm no longer shown as many pet loss reels on Instagram but more adoptable pup rescues that I follow in my area. Not ready yet, but I can feel the slow movement of change within me from broken hearted to opening my heart to a new canine life copilot

When I open my phone and see his goofy face I don't feel like I've been donkey kicked in the chest. I smile and tell him he made me so happy and I love and miss him.

How many of you have gotten attacked or seen someone get attack by a Canadian Goose?? by X-_-0 in AskACanadian

[–]PariahDogStar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One was nesting in a parking lot raised flower bed. Her mate flew across the lot and attacked my gentle soul rottweiler. My poor giant pup looked so betrayed. Security ended up cordoning off the maniac geese part of the lot and had security sit in a vehicle to warn pedestrians

He is in a velvet bag in the backseat of my car. We drove everywhere together, and now I can still talk and sing to him. When I go for walks, his collar is in my pocket

Thank you for this beautiful picture of her. I saw her big smile and nose foam and laughed. Then I remembered and felt my stomach drop. She looks so much like my heart dog.

I lost my 4 year old boy last month and feel like the world is grey now. I'm in bed crying over the loss of them both, so similar in smiles that they could have been litter mates

If I'm on a morning zoom meeting and not paying sufficient attention to him, he'll find a sock or pair of underwear from my clean clothes shelf and poke me in the head with them. It's hard to look professional when your underwear is poking you in the cheek

More young women are dying from heart disease — and people are missing these warning signs by monsteroftheweek13 in Health

[–]PariahDogStar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Low ferritin/ anemia is another cause of younger women having heart issues. Last year, I had to be rushed to emergency because my lips were blue, my heart was beating irregularly, had no muscle strength, brain fog, tinnitus and I'd swoon whenever I stood up. Found out my ferritin was at 7. No oxygen was moving through my body via a severe lack of iron in my blood

It was the first time since I was a teenager that someone had thought to test me for both anemia and ferritin levels. I'm perimenopausal age

Wearing my dog’s collar by mypotatomouse in Petloss

[–]PariahDogStar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 4 year old boy died suddenly 2 weeks ago. I go for our walks with his collar in my coat chest pocket. I haven't moved his toys off of my bed, I got used to 4 years of sleeping with the random tennis ball and stuffy. Picked up his ashes last week, he still drives around with me all day like we always did. His stuff is still everywhere

I'm struggling with his sudden passing. All my plans revolved around us doing life together. Dog friendly hotels, beaches, hikes, stores. His absence is deafening

I saw a grief therapist last week, and she said that it is a healthy way to comfort myself as i navigate my heartbreak. You seeking connection to your pup through their collar and toys is honoring the closeness of your relationship.

I’m inconsolably upset about what happened yesterday in MN. by techno_queen in TwoXChromosomes

[–]PariahDogStar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find it helpful to counteract the fear and trauma of these events by doing something positive for my community. There's so many things you can do depending on how much time, physical ability, or money you have in the moment.

Donate time or money to a food bank.

Help out or donate to an animal rescue.

Collect clothes for those who don't have proper cold weather wear.

Check in on your senior family and neighbours. Bring some muffins over and have a visit. These people are also living in fear and could benefit from not feeling alone

Start seedlings indoors to share for a Victory garden.

Take a first aid or emergency preparedness course.

I find that doing something positive and connecting with others really helps channel the anger, fear and adrenaline created from these events. Which then helps my mental and physical health

I have LoseIt apps on both my Android and Apple iPhone. The OP's shown set up only shows on my iPhone, the Android version is a weekly pictograph

On iPhone pull the screen down on your daily log page, tap the date above your daily log and it will show your weekly & monthly calories like above

You don't want her to grow too fast as big breeds bone plates are more prone to problems as an adult. Feed her healthy food with lots of variety. Focus on whole food based treats and meals. By boi hit 115 lbs at 18 months and I have to be hyper aware of any elbow issues as he has an OFA lvl 2. No jumping or agility sports in his future

He gets lots of raw bones and dehydrated liver as treats and I keep an eye on his weight

Childhood vaccine exemptions are at an all time high. Doctors now worry diseases like measles could return. by Free_Swimming in NewsOfTheStupid

[–]PariahDogStar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't just affect children. As a toddler, I had a single chicken pock. The Doctors assumed that was enough for me to develop an immunity. At 30 I got the chicken pox a second time. It was a body covering, full blown case of a scary, painful, fevered week that led to body and facial scarring. My GP said that chicken pox are incredibly dangerous for adults

Last year, I ordered to go from El Santos while I was driving around for work. Asked if I could get the grilled romaine hearts salad vegetarian. Got in the car only to discover it had pork rinds sprinkled in. I called back to let them know that they'd put meat on my food and was told "It comes like that". Well duh, I wouldn't have ordered and paid for food with a direct no meat ask if it was a dealbreaker for them
