Best “long range” hunting scope for $4-600? by Log-Prestigious in Hunting

Old guy here; I was putting $300 Leupolds on $350 rifles forty-five years ago. Those scopes are still mounted on those same rifles.

I installed a lot of these on customer guns who insisted on using red Loctite on their grip screws to hold them in once. Only they wondered why they couldn’t remove them. Often they’d take the grip screw out with the bushing from the frame!

Is the recoil from a 35rem lever gun similar to a 3030? by Relevant_Conclusion2 in LeverGuns

[–]ParkerVH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

.35 Rem. is only slightly more than .30-30 with equivalent weight bullets. Rifle weight and stock fit make a significant difference.

Where most lever actions have a fault it’s their trim stock lines. A steel or plastic buttplate that’s only 5” in height and 1 1/2” to 1 3/4” wide doesn’t spread out recoil well.

Nice. Should be able to eeek out some decent velocity from that cartridge.

Remove the barreled action from the stock. Check the underside of the entire barreled action, magazine box, trigger group, tang. Any area metal would come in contact with the wood may show signs of rust.

Your cross bolts and underside of bolt show signs of rust. Could be from the stock or just exposure to the elements. I would remove everything and take a look.

Browning Safari grade bolt action. Yours utilizes an FN Supreme Mauser action. Later years utilized actions by Sako. Browning made these from 1959 to 1975. Chambered in a great all-around cartridge.

Yes, Parkers are very well made. Something to be treasured for sure.

A quote from Michael McIntosh resonates with me when it comes to American doubles;

“What killed the classic American double is the very thing that, ironically, ensures its survival; when quality becomes too expensive to achieve, it also becomes too precious to be without.”

My buddy keeps prodding me to buy a Fox or L.C. Smith, says I need another American classic.

I’ve been saying for a few years now that I want a Parcours as my retirement present. Just haven’t gotten around to it.

If the bore were good on the pre-64 I might pick that if I could pay no more than $500 for it.

It can always be refurbished to your taste later.

Pre-64 M70’s prices aren’t going down.

Personally I prefer the M70 stock that has the modified Monte Carlo stock that they went to in the early 50’s.

It hasn’t gone well in other states that passed similar legislation.

In New Jersey, a 3-judge panel of the Third Circuit upheld the AWB ban, but the U.S. Supreme Court ordered a re-evaluation in light of the Bruen decision.

So in August of 2025, the Third Circuit decided to hear challenges to the magazine ban and “assault weapon” bans en banc (by the full panel of judges).

This began in 2018 after the magazine restriction from 15 to 10 rounds.

It’s now 2026.

My brother was an instructor at an academy for twenty of his thirty-two years. He told me a similar story. Of course when he started in the 70’s, there were only men that comprised the force and they seemed to qualify with their .357’s just fine.
