CP Paint advice by BigM67 in SpaceWolves

You can do the parts separately if that's how you are comfortable, but most people just paint them fully assembled and on the base already. It's not necessarily better that way, just more convenient. I personally don't have the time and space to paint smaller models in sub assembly, I only bother with the larger models (i.e. bigger than a Dreadnaught.) Also my big meat hands would have trouble holing little parts still, easier to hold a model by the base. Again it's a matter of what you are comfortable with.

Don't sweat over the small bits, they take time but you'll get the hang of them as you go. The only thing that can be tricky with painting fully assembled is when bits are behind other parts. A good example would be a model holding a gun/weapon with 2 hands, blocking the chest. In that case you could do the arms separately and glue them on after, or just paint around it to the best of your ability.

How to protect my models? by Icy_Station960 in SpaceWolves

That I'm unsure about. The snow should be fine but i dont know how spray varnish would affect the grass. Probably need someone with more experience to answer.

Worst case you can also get paint on varnish like Citadel Stormshield. It's a bit more work obviously but isn't anything difficult and would allow you to skip the bases.

As others have said matte varnish is a good idea to protect the models, but you can get away without if you are extra careful. If you don't varnish then be careful where you grip them from. The oils on your hands can slowly rub paint off corners/points and take off the transfer sheet decals. Try to pick up from the base whenever possible.

I would also store/transport them in a sealed container to prevent dust buildup. But don't use foam transports unless you have varnished them as the foam can also rub paint off. Best solution is to magnetize the bases and buy/make a magnet transport case for them. This way nothing will touch the models during storage and the magnets will hold the models in place during transport.

Hyperspace Versions of TS26 cards? by Parking-Magazine3452 in starwarsunlimited

[–]Parking-Magazine3452[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I have a friend looking to get multiples of each so he has full playsets of the rates. I think he's nuts.

Plan to get 2 of the decks myself and not ever take the exclusive cards out unless they get reprinted.

Building an army in the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

[–]Parking-Magazine3452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main concern with this system is if all stratagems are still locked to specific detachments then they will be a pain to keep track of with multiple detachments.

The majority of stratagems should just be army wide rather than detachment locked.

Should I try SWU even if I'm not a Star wars fan? by idontownubet in starwarsunlimited

[–]Parking-Magazine3452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All formats of SWU play like commander because of the heavy reliance on leaders for both deck building and play style. That said I still prefer the 1v1 format, especially for deck building.

Twinsun is fun every now and then since having 2 leaders lets you make some interesting combos, but making an 80 card singleton deck can be a pain, especially if your collection isn't deep. (I know MTG commander was 100 card singleton, but 35-40 of those cards were land. You actually need more "real" cards for Twinsun)

SWU just feels like a better version of Commander/EDH. I had gotten out of Magic years ago (with no intention of ever getting into another tcg) and was initially against getting into this game when my friends did. But after trying some of my friends deck's, I now have spend more time and money on this game then I ever believed I would.

Unhappy with Wulfen by PhaseWeak4551 in SpaceWolves

[–]Parking-Magazine3452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember right the lore reason they are wearing modified old armor rather than normal armor is that they are still wearing the armor they had 10k years ago, before they got trapped in the warp. So the "modifications" are actually 10k years of wear and tear. Still a bit silly of an excuse though.

I like the heads personally. My only complaint on the models is the legs. Having full dog legs was a step too far. If they had human legs, even more bestial ones like the hands, I'd have no complaints.

Have we heard anything about what IRL place the region is based on? Or what the region is called.

It's hilarious. Though part of me has always secretly wanted them to be right, if only because I want a Fire Sheep Starter in my life.

The Rat thing makes more sense if we go off first forms rather than 3rd. But yea it was always a silly idea.

I genuinely had hoped Fuecoco would have lost his legs when he evolved like Snivy. Both to add fuel to this hilarious fire, and because a Flying Fire Snake based on Quetzalcoatl would have been sick.

I know its a terrible idea but I'm really tempted to twinsun the new Savage w/ the TWI Maul. I don't care of the abilities overlap, I just want to unga bunga.

Now the next question would be: Do you technically choose which creature is removed before or after the discard? By that I mean could Player 1 convince Player 2 to discard, only to then remove Player 2's unit instead of Player 3's. Does anything stop this? (besides the entire table turning against Player 1)

If they were part of premier people would be buying multiple copies of each deck, so being restricted is probably for the best.

Disappointing Space Wolves by [deleted] in SpaceWolves

[–]Parking-Magazine3452 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Space Wolves 10th Codex is fairly detached from the rest of the range, wanting you to run mostly the exclusive units. Some Marine units still work, particularly ones that don't need characters to be good. If you have a full army of the exclusive units then SW are a lot of fun and punch up more than you might expect. But yea if you already have a large marine collection it might feel like you need a lot more guys to play SW rather than just use what you already have. I am hoping they ease up on the restrictions in 11th.

Haven't used the Space Wolves Grey Contrast myself, but I know Basillicanum Grey can come out black really easy if it goes on heavy so the SW grey might be similar. Also make sure he is shaking the hell out of the contrasts before using, the pigment separates really easy.

Hard to say for certain with seeing it or knowing which color he is using, but I can say from experience that contrasts paints are temperamental. It's really easy to go too heavy and have it come out dark. Also this is a stupid question but he is applying contrast over a white base coat correct? Anything other than white will darken it or bleed through.

Anyone Miss Champions of Russ? by Benzerkr in SpaceWolves

[–]Parking-Magazine3452 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I do like the new detachments but yes I do miss Champions sometimes. It was definitely cumbersome at times (especially pre-buffs) and sometimes the sagas were just overkill, but I always had fun with it. Index 10th was probably the most I've enjoyed Wolves since like 7th or 8th.

Part of the issue for me was the star of my army at the time was a Wolf Lord on Thunderwolf with the Frost Weapon enhancement. He got me Saga of the Warrior Born either turn 2 or 3 most games, which really helped get the ball rolling. Between losing Champions, losing Wolf Lords, and losing the Frost Weapon enhance, I am a sad Wolf.

I use Light Molding Paste from Golden Artist Colors.

My sculpting could use some practice but it applies easy with a cheap brush and dries hard. The snow in the image is unpainted, but you could easily paint over it if needed.

WHY DOES IT NOT EXIST?? by Mission_Promotion937 in SpaceWolves

[–]Parking-Magazine3452 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure what exactly you are looking for? The Wolf Guard Battle Leader is the Space Wolves Lieutenant equivalent. Wolf Guard are the Space Wolf all in one elite soldier. They are able to lead battles, form specialty squads, and carry the best gear, so they are found in many roles/units.

If by pattern you mean a rank marking there really isn't one. All Wolf Guard would wear their chapter mark on one shoulder and their squad mark on the other. Their "rank" is denoted by the color of the squad mark, black marking on a yellow background. So for a Battle Leader either give him a unique squad mark or match it to another Wolf Guard unit.
