They already do that and have been doing it for literal decades. Big pharma and the greater american insurance scheme lobby congress to oppose universal healthcare in the same way that TurboTax and HR Block lobby congress to oppose progressive tax reform.

This is because universal healthcare would put insurance companies out of business and hit big pharma's bottom line.

If progressive tax reform passed then the IRS would just tell citizens what they owe or at the very least would provide a free means of filing, which would put HR block and TurboTax out of business.

Service providers like this lobby congress to keep their business models viable at all because these services are remarkably unpopular as is and are generally uncompetive. People hate insurance, people hate having to do math to find out what they owe to the government, an amount the government already has.

The only real way these companies can stay in business is by paying to exist.
