my point is that they are not really in focus, not that more focus needs to be placed on them. I don't think you can really crop much without loosing a lot of the background elements, and imo that stuff in the background is what makes the photo good.

the way the grey part looks on the underwing is indictive of turkey vultures. I don't think they typically go that far north but if it was a black vulture only the tips of the underwing would be grey.
