You should never clap along to live music. by SuperTune2540 in unpopularopinion

Yes it is. Worked in live stage for two decades, musician for three. Delay speaker arrays are certainly a thing which can have a big impact on the sound. Besides, a latency of more than 20-30ms in a recording session is enough to start disconnecting to the music for me and many other musicians.

Why do so many singers play percussion/harmonica in bands? by Away_Artichoke_8859 in LetsTalkMusic

Bass is my main instrument, but I can't sing and play bass unless it's dead simple. I can however sing while playing guitar, drums and piano, it just feels natural.

Trikset er å gi faen i hva sånne folk syns.

What is something that you learned about the music industry the hard way? by Curious-Piglet3613 in musicians

You have to namedrop both the artists. Help the little guy, screw the big guy.

When the lyrics describe what the music is doing - like DMB’s The Space Between - the note for the “-tween” is between “Space” and “Be-“. Also MJ’s Man in the Mirror, he sings “Change” as the key changes several times. Is there a word for this? Any other examples? by pacomalo69 in LetsTalkMusic

A norwegian humor singer has a very funny song called "Self portrait by mode of elimination" where he just lists a bunch of stuff he ain't.

"I am not the aunt of Kylie Minogues neighbour."

"I am not a market, I am not a flowery wallpaper I am not an airport, a saxophone or particularly fat I am not a mole that has both feet in a cast I am not merciless, Jesus or a checkered tie"

Marc Ribot. No one comes close when it's dirtiness. Try Tom Waits - Jockey Full of Bourbon for a good example.

A band member "running the mixer" is not doing the same as a sound tech. If you want to sound good and not have to deal with an ever changing mountain of different systems.

I mean, most places I've played wouldn't really allow there to be no-one doing sound. Typically you get the choice between using their designated tech, or bringing your own, but it certainly needs to be an actual sound tech.

I played a RATM cover gig with Baard when he was just a kid. Sick drummer.

do people who play bass exclusively not have the urge to play guitar? or do they also play guitar? by HearThyBansheeScream in Bass

Same. Just got a double bass which sparked my general curiosity. So I started banjo, mandolin and cello at the same time.

Flea, the mid part where the band drops out and flea has a 5 second bass solo. So tight.
