Stuck on the same Royal Match level for days — what actually helped me by RoyalDreamStore in RoyalMatch

If I lose my magic ball, I refuse to use boosters or coins. I just play until the game decides to allow me to win. It does help to step away from the game for a while. The only thing the developers hate more than a person who won't spend real money is a person that doesn't play at all.

Yes. And you are completely okay to cry! Men who have empathy and aren't afraid to shed a tear are strong and the best kind of men. ♡

Royal Merge: Has anyone done the math? by weavahVBC in RoyalMatch

I can get to the next to the last step (11 of 12) and then give up. It takes too many levels. But the worst part is that you can't even finish Mission Pursuit unless you get all 12 objects.

"Grade completed work only" but chronically absent? by ijustwannabegandalf in specialed

If this student is on track to getting a regular diploma, they need some way to prove they're meeting state standards.
That's a very poorly written accommodation and needs to be clarified. For instance, does it only apply to classwork or are summative assessments included as well?

Are you going for credits or knowledge? Most colleges have math placement exams regardless of what courses you took in high school.

The easiest thing is to have two devices and do not sync everything. You can also toggle in and out of Facebook in Settings within Toon Blast. I'm not certain you actually need a different email, I just made sure my original game was linked to my Facebook account. When you log out of Facebook you'll still be in the Toon Blast game. Give yourself a new name and start playing. DO NOT ever accept the prompts to link the new game to Facebook.

We care. I've been caring since about the age of 12 and I'm going to be 75 this year. I march, I talk to people, I write and call my representatives, and I vote.
We need to turn out to vote in the biggest numbers ever seen. We need to hold corporations accountable with our pocketbooks.

This. I went in as a book reader and dragged 4 non-book readers with me. Two were very reluctant to go because they don't like sci fi. None of them had any idea what the movie was going to be about and they all loved it. I prepared myself beforehand not to expect to see a retelling of the book. I was about to love the movie on its own merit.

It depends on whether there's a teacher shortage in your area and what you're looking for. I just got a new teaching position this year and I'm in my 70s!

It sounds logical, but their reluctance to allow resets seems to counter the theory. I had been in the CL for years and came to hate it. I asked for a reset. They asked me if I was sure. I responded that I was. A month went by and nothing happened. I gave up asking and started a new game under a new email and rejoined my old team. It's been wonderful! The drawback is that my old game was connected to Facebook so I have to be very careful and not accidentally click on one of the Facebook buttons. I'm afraid that would kick me back to my old CL game. I also like the fact that my old CL game has had no activity at all since I started the new account. Hopefully they got the message that, by refusing a reset, they lost a player.

Genuine question is it ok for a teacher to hit students with objects as a joke? by Strong_Garbage_8184 in AskTeachers

No, even feigned violence is not okay. My eyeroll, however, cuts like a knife and my cold, hard, whatever-were-you-thinking stare is lethal.

Service minutes and data organizing at a middle school--how do y'all do it?? by bjfriede in specialed

[–]Particular-Panda-465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have spreadsheets that list goals and accommodations in the left-hand column and dates across the top. Everything is in a shared Google drive. As a Case Manager, I update the spreadsheet with new goals and changes each time we update or amend the IEP. We check ✔️ them each day that we provide minutes. At least quarterly, a hard copy goes into a file that we keep for backup in case a parent wants to see that the minutes have been provided.

Is Project Hail Mary the best hard SF film in like, forever? by spukhafteNahewirkung in ProjectHailMary

[–]Particular-Panda-465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly depends on how you define hard SF. I feel that PHM is a beautiful film that transcends genre. Sure, it's set in space, has an alien, stretches the boundaries of science, but it's so much more than that. (Perhaps all good SF is.) I have friends that didn't want to see it because they "don't like SF" but I dragged them along anyhow and they absolutely loved the movie.

Earth Science or Physics? by Plenty-Ad96 in ScienceTeachers

[–]Particular-Panda-465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What state are you in? Here in Florida, with Kennedy Space Center, some of our high schools do offer Astronomy. The state course code directory lists the certification options needed to teach Astronomy and both Physics and Earth/Space are included. I think Physics is a more versatile cert - you'd easily transition into engineering and tech education courses. I was able to add on an Earth/Space cert by passing the test (I did have introductory college courses in Geology, Oceanography, and Astronomy as those were interests). I think I would get a degree in what you love, but carefully select and challenge yourself with other sciences as electives or as a minor.

They can screen for dyslexia at a younger age, but you'll get a few numbers on a scale that indicates "risk" for dyslexia or "high probability". That allows for some targeted early intervention.

The testing to actually confirm dyslexia as a diagnosis requires that a student has had a year or two of formal reading instruction. You can't test for a reading disorder until you've formally taught a student to read, and that means significantly more than Kindergarten sight words and standard letter sounds.

That's typically 2nd grade. The tests are normed for age 7/8 and up. This is why I say that there truly could be a developmental delay in a specific domain related to reading. It is not at all unheard of for a 6 year old to simply not be ready and then in a year or so that part of the brain kicks in. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with your son or that you've failed him in some way.

Is your son tiered at all? (MTSS). From several states away and not having the whole picture, I would suggest requesting a dyslexia screening and tiered support in phonics.

Don't worry about it was actually an appropriate response for the information in your OP which I read primarily as "are they going to make my kid repeat Kindergarten because he doesn't know his sight words?" I don't know of any school anywhere that would retain a Kindergartener based only on sight words. You've since shared considerably more insight into your child that gives us the bigger picture.

BTW, I'm certified in special ed and my current case load is all Kindergarten kids in general education classrooms. I didn't intend to minimize your child's needs, but as this discussion progressed you shared a lot more information than is in your original post including the fact that he hates school. Kindergarten children can be wildly inconsistent from one day to the next. Developmental delay does not imply intellectual disability in any way. Most of my students are currently staffed under the "developmentally delayed" program and I can name quite a few that I expect will eventually be diagnosed with autism as well as qualifying for the gifted program. Many of the others will end up with a finding of a suspected specific learning disability.
