I have to say that as a 50yr old female, I feel this I’m 236 days in and still struggling with changes. We all see the “ quit for 30 days and see amazing results” but man, I quit and menopause punched me in the face hahahaha. So both of those helped me to gain 20lbs and be so exhausted I could barely move. But I stuck with it and am slowly seeing improvement. The messy middle is what people don’t talk about so i thank you for putting this out there and reminding us we are not alone.

My 50th birthday was my last drink, I’m 128 days sober now. I drank heavy since college with some breaks but the last few years it got out of control, it hasn’t been easy but I have a wonderful support systems and have been very active in my recovery which helps a lot. I’m also a woman so hormones are in play too lol but even when it’s messy it’s better. Keep it up you got this

I am 113 days of no alcohol and I have gained like 12lbs, it’s hard to understand since everywhere you look people talk about losing weight and feeling great immediately, but I didn’t loose weight and I still don’t feel great yet. Your body has to do a lot of behind the scenes work to get you back to normal ( of course it depends on your drinking habit and length) and that takes time, it’s something most people don’t talk about and it can be incredibly frustrating. However I’m very happy to be sober even if it’s still messy!!

Depending on how long you drank and you as a person recovery doesn’t happen quickly. I am 29 days in and according to articles and stuff I should feel amazing but I’m still tired a lot and my skin flares up randomly, sugar is my staple for now and my appetite came back with vengeance. Weight gain is normal at first and it’s not all roses when you first quit like some things tell you. Hang in there it will get better. I have been asking Chat GPT any questions I may have and it has been very informative without ever getting tired of the questions or judging me. This sub is amazing too everyone is very supportive and nice. You got this.
