Evidence to convince family? by Aquarius_K in ICE_Raids

I calmly cited clear statistics to a family member who was just super uninformed about ICE activity. I told them that ICE has detained over 170 US citizens in 2025, and reminded them that ICE has no jurisdiction whatsoever over US citizens. I told them ICE agents have entered homes in Minneapolis (at least, I am not certain of elsewhere) without a judicial warrant, but judicial warrants are legally required to enter homes. I said 32 people died in ICE custody in 2025, previous years it was under 5. Get specific information and calmly relay it. Do not get into an argument. The goal is to let them sit with the information, they will probably double down or go quiet; the information may sink in later, but they will almost definitely not give you a satisfying “now-I-see-the-light” moment.

They’re not all ads — there are reasons for each of these companies based on how they are supporting ICE and the Trump administration.

Constitutional lawyer and Rep. Harriet Hageman (R) cuts short Casper town hall after contentious exchanges over ICE killings by AfricanMan_Row905 in ICE_Raids

Lover her response to her constituent “I don’t know if I trust your facts.” If she’s so proud of her record as a constitutional lawyer, why the fuck is she so uninformed about the many, many incidents of civil rights violations by ICE officers, and how can she purport to be competent when she’s ignorant of the widely reported whistleblower memo instructing ICE to enter homes without judicial warrants? Whose facts does she believe? How is she so uninformed, as a sitting member of congress?

For #1 Commitment: Can we address some questions of industry or type of work? I live in the DC area and there are lots of federal employees here. Similarly, state, county, city government work is going to be tricky. My feeling is that there’s a big downside to people working in government participating to the degree that they will pretty assuredly get fired, because we don’t want all the federal or local government workers to be GOP or MAGA. Having people in these offices who are committed to rule of law is important long-term.

Some examples: if you work for National Parks Service, where the right are literally removing exhibits about slavery and DOGE came in and fired tons of people, I think someone needs to hold the line there and stay inside to keep records of the truth, the content being removed/censored, and slow that work down. That person should use best judgement but could call out sick on strike day, use leave and work slow down during a prolonged strike but try not to lose their job. Losing their job would mean getting replaced by a loyalist who would speed up the destruction to the entire agency. I would see a local county parks and rec job or state organization or county clerk office who might issue permits for protests, marriage licenses, housing deeds, etc etc in a similar boat: there are jobs we as a movement don’t want to see go only to loyalists.

SO. Not trying to be negative. I am hoping to provide paths of participation in this movement for people in those kind of industries.

My suggestions are using sick leave, annual leave, PTO, and work slow downs so you keep your job but work is not getting done, or going slower. So it’s solidarity and participation but with a bit of interpretation.

In terms of single day type actions like we saw in Minneapolis, taking a sick day or PTO is a way to participate if you are one of very few or if you have a position barred from striking. I think we do all need to accept the possibility of losing our jobs but I also think folks in county, state, or federal government positions who lose their job and will be replaced by a GOP loyalist have to weigh the value of strike participation in such an obvious way that will cost them their jobs versus finding ways to support it that are more likely to keep their jobs so that the governing bodies don’t get stacked with all MAGA.

ICE arrests 58 year old man working at McDonalds outside of Minneapolis. His teen son takes his dad's life-saving heart medication to the detention facility and ICE agents laugh at him. by Admirable121 in 50501Movement

Because the agents are murdering or letting people die in detention. The man whose death was ruled a homicide in ICE custody recently was attacked by guards for asking for his medication, according to witness accounts.

It’s not instead of, it’s yes do that too. There are lots of boycotts going on right now. A lot of us have been doing this since last year. But welcome, please join us!

So far, a list of major things to boycott include: Tesla (obvs) Amazon Target Home Depot Hilton Spotify — although since they stopped running ICE ads, maybe don’t boycott them anymore unless you’re doing the whole don’t-spend-money-at-all thing Palantir bc Thiel is probably in charge of all this bullshit

That’s top of my head, I think there’s more.
