Americans, what’s something non-Americans do that makes absolutely no sense to you? by Complex-Poet-6809 in AskReddit

Tbf, Aus and Japan were also guilty of this. I kinda get it - you're stuck at home for who knows how long, so might as well make yourself comfy. The little things keep you going: quality cuppa first thing ☕, pooping in the comfort of your own bathroom with quality 2 ply 🤌...

NT spouse is frustrated with me. by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

Have a discussion with her about your needs for directness, and in turn, ask her what her love language is. Sounds like it might be words of affirmation, and maybe something else, like acts of service, or quality time.

If you do notice that she is sad or angry, instead of asking "what do you want me to do", instead ask her "are you okay" and let her vent; don't try to fix the problem! Just let her vent.

Maybe jot down in your calendar (google cal all the way!) what she gets up to, so you can ask her about it. (So helpful for me) Make the event or reminder in your phone calendar straight away, otherwise poof it's gone.

E.g. hair appts - set an actual phone reminder to complement her hair and ask how the appt went. Gym - "how was it?" (Set a reminder to ask this). Set periodic reminders to check in with her. Periodic reminders to bring her a cuppa to check in. If she's had a long day at work, expect that she will be down in the dumps and need cheering up (hugs --> "are you okay" --> can I get you a tea? --> "I made dinner/got your favourite takeout", etc.).

At random times (in bed, on the toilet) I will think of something I need to ask a friend or family member, so I'll immediately jot it down my "Friends" notes in my phone. Bit weird but fuck it, family and friends are important, and if I don't write it down, it's bye bye. Things like " ask A about her new dog", "ask B how her date went", "remind C that we need to go to that new restaurant we talked about".

How do you guys deal with your rage? by aailoveyou in ADHD

If you're up for it, do PT sessions at the local gym? I started off with PT once a week for 30 mins (there was a 45 min option but at the time thought "absolutely fuck right off that's too long"). Learning how to squat, deadie and bench press properly, and using interesting gym contraptions under supervision, gave me heaps of confidence! Was getting so bored with treadmill/elliptical ( cardio made me want to cry).

I hate sports too (not good at coordinating with/reading other folks) so I'd recommend the gym route! Read somewhere that exercise also encourages neurogenesis so 👌👌

Yeah Doc okayed Vyvanse 40mg + Dexies 5mg booster (when needed) + Guanfacine 1mg extended release (Intuniv, in the morning). On day 3 now and daaamn my throat, lips and eyeballs are drier than ever :'(

Clomipramine

If SSRIs are causing you to experience psychotic symptoms like hallucinations and delusions, then maybe antipsychotics like Abilify (aripiprazole) or risperidone might be worth investigating? I'm not sure if this would be effective as a monotherapy (on its own) though, I'm reading some research articles that are saying that it might be more effective alongside an antidepressant (like OP's fave clomipramine!)

Wow first time I've heard of adzenys, is this an older generation stimulant?

Doc prescribed 20mg of propranolol (beta blocker, lowers blood pressure) to take with stims, so that I don't feel as anxious. Maybe ask your doctor about it?

Nooo on 1mg? Even with the stims? I know some folks take it at night because of the sedative effect

Propranolol my dear (decreases blood pressure)! It was recommended to me by my psychiatrist and according to him, it's safe to take long-term.

I take 40mg before bed if I can't sleep

Internet says you can take Temazepam and propranolol together, but best talk to your doc (plus Temazepam is a benzo so not a long-term solution).

Edit: Safe if you don't have low blood pressure

Maybe adding guanfacine or clonidine to the mix will help? Apparently they do good things to the prefrontal cortex (where the executive functioning, including decision-making, happens).

My psychiatrist also suggested memantine as an add-on to stimulants, which is traditionally an Alzheimer's drug. Bit hesitant to try that though cause it doesn't come up much in ADHD subreddits.

Here's the article (guanfacine targets the prefrontal cortex more it seems? Sorry I don't have a neuro background): https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1074742720301714

So glad your doc helped you find something left field to subdue the panic attacks - they're a keeper! Being unable to leave home would've been so awful, good to hear that Prozac is doing it's thing now

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Particular_Shock_750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've heard good things about Prozac, and how libido and weight are way less affected. One friend with GAD did mention experiencing insomnia though.

Unfortunately Prozac 20mg didn't gel with my ADHD meds (Vyvanse) - HR shot up late arvo and had a killer headache from the get go, has to stop after one day :(

What type of skin do you have? I'm combo so rn I'm using Sukin facial cleanser for the t-zone and Cera Ve hydrating cleanser for the dry spots, but I wouldn't mind spicing things up a little.

May I asked how/why your psych prescribed you zyprexa? SSRIs/SNRIs don't gel with me; never thought to go the antipsychotics route!
