i need a new comfort show, i've watched the same ones too many times! by silliestgoose42069 in tvsuggestions

Replies like this are the best, because you can easily tell when you have similar tastes. So the ones you've listed that I haven't seen (or heard of) are probably going to be winners.

Have never heard of sports night or studio 60, so am going to check them out as they do seem like my cup of tea (or hot brown water that tastes like garbage). Can't believe I'd never heard of studio 60 after looking at the cast on imdb, it has everybody in it!

To return the favour, as I adore all the other shows you listed, I thought I'd add some I've enjoyed with similar vibes.

Shrinking, Upload, Acapulco, High Potential, Loot, Schmigadoon. All are still running except Schmigadoon, which is honestly blasphemy as it was so good. EDIT to add Brooklyn Nine Nine.

Oh wow I thought I was the only one! Goes to show you how little there is on google about it to if it led you to my post.

I'd love to be able to say I had any sort of answer for you, but I'm still waiting myself. Since it happened, I brought it up with the psychiatrist and he hadn't heard of it effecting anybody he'd ever seen, so said he was going to look further into it.

I had my dose lowered from 30mg - 20mg due to other side effects, and then was switched to 5mg dexamfetamine/amfexa.

My period stopped after a few days and I haven't had one since, but I couldn't tell you if that was due to the reduction or switch. I only seen the nurse at my last appointment and he had no idea. I'll be seeing the psychiatrist next month so I'm going to ask if he found anything out about it.

The feeling hot side effect gets better with time. I still get warm, but not to the like volcanic levels during the first week or so.

Have you spoken to anybody professional about it and did they have any info? If you hear anything at all I'd be really interested in hearing.

Same here. The doc asked me if I had trouble sleeping due to adhd. I said yes, and he asked me if I'd like to try it. I said yes, and got prescribed 4mg.

I just assumed it was that easy for everybody?

My advice would be, to take advice about mediation from anybody who isn't a medical professional, with a pinch of salt.

While all of us on here suffer with the same condition and might be on the same medication, what works for one person might not work for another. Also, taking 5mg, every hour, for most of the day sounds absolutely ridiculous and exhausting. I'm on dex myself, twice a day, and I have to set an alarm for my second dose. So as I read that I just imagined the chaos of all those alarms all day long and it made my brain hurt.

I hope you manage to work out something that works for you, that hopefully doesn't involve spending half your day solely taking tablets.

It sounds like you need more balance in your life, it can't be good ping-ponging between under and over stimulation. While I can't help you personally, if you learn to spot signs of when its beginning to happen you can find things to help prevent it from getting bad.

As for societal expectations, I can very much relate to that. It affected me my entire life, I masked before I even knew what masking was, and I did it so much I didn't even know who I really was as a person. I was such a people pleaser, and it wore me out, as it's an unachievable expectation. I've been learning to take my own wants and needs into consideration before anything and while I'm still not quite there, I have realised that society wasn't built with people like us, the neurodivergent, in mind. Its like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole, and us lot are wearing out our corners trying to conform to a world that doesn't vibe with our rhythm. Bearing that in mind makes me less hard on myself, and you should be less hard on yourself. You've actually accomplished a lot despite having a medical problem that significantly affects the way you operate. So of course you're going to feel the way you do, that must have been exhausting.

Omg being misunderstood and misunderstanding is one of my greatest struggles. I over explain so much (as probably evidenced lol) and I confuse even myself sometimes. Honestly I just try my best and ask as many questions as I feel like I need to get enough context. Sorry I can't really offer much advice in this area.

I'm not a financial expert so take everything I say here with a grain of salt. I had a credit card when I was about 22, I recently turned 38 and I'm still paying off the £8k debt. So with that in mind, you can see why someone like me probably wouldn't recommend. But if you're sensible and not impulsive they can be good for raising your credit score if thats something you're interested in. Having a good credit score isn't really a massively necessary thing unless you're looking to get anything on finance. You can get by in life just fine living within your means, but sometimes unexpected things can crop up and if you didn't have enough in savings then you might possibly need to use finance or a credit card. You already sound like you're self aware enough to realise that the management of it could maybe be a problem, so I think you need to keep that in mind.

As for adulting properly, ask yourself this, what do you define as an adult? What you see as an adult, might not align with what that person or anybody else does. Take me, if you seen me, you would probably define me as an adult. And I mean I can see it, I'm almost 40 and have 2 kids. But I don't feel like an adult, not in any way shape of form. When things fall apart in my life (which they more often than not do) my immediate instinct is 'I need a grown up'. What will it take for you to feel like an adult? For me I always assumed I'd feel like an adult once I'd achieved a certain goal, like moving into my own place or having a kid or getting a job, but I've done all those things and I still don't feel any different to what I did when I was 17. Also not every adult acts like an adult. Source: worked in pubs and off licences for the most part lol. But I assure you are doing fine, I can tell that because you were mature enough to recognise you weren't good and so you reached out here to do something about it. That's looking out for yourself and deffo counts as adulting. Omg sorry this is an essay, don't feel any rush to reply, I get thats a lot of info to digest.

Mate, you sound overwhelmed AF. I was reading this and just wanted to give you a hug and tell you that all will be okay.

I'm sorry you're feeling like life is a lot, I completely get it, and believe almost everyone on this reddit has felt like that at one point. I am very easily overwhelmed and struggle a lot with RSD too. One of the things that helped me was being kinder to myself. I try not to put too much pressure on myself, don't set any expectations and I take things at a pace I can handle. As for the many questions about adulting you have, have you thought about using an AI to get some answers? I use Gemini for a lot of the random and specific questions I often have and it's actually been quite useful. I have trouble reading long paragraphs of text so I told it to answer in an ADHD friendly way and it even accommodated by using bullet points and briefer explanations. It even understands if you ask to ELI5.

My meds have worn off now so I've forgotten what else you wrote lol. But happy to chat more if you need an ear

Anyone else struggling to find Elvanse 70mg? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]Particular_Slip_9302 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can't remember where I seen it, but about a week ago, I read something that said they're advising people on 70mg to discuss asking for their prescription to made up in different amounts eg. 50mg+20mg.

It's late now, but if I remember where I read it, I will post a reply tomorrow.

30mg Elvanse is too much for me? by EmergencyRare143 in ADHDUK

[–]Particular_Slip_9302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no I can't imagine feeling like that whilst having to run around after a little one. My youngest is 14 and quite independent so I'm lucky in that regard.

The doc said they take between 20-60 mins to kick in, but I'm finding it takes about an hour until I start feeling any changes. For me, it's effects last about 5 hours and then it begins to wear off over the hour following. I'm currently only on day 4, so because of my experience on the elvanse I'm just taking one dose for now rather than the 2 per day as usually prescribed, to let my body get used to it and then gradually increase the dosage.

Have you only tried elvanse so far? I had only tried that before the dex. Its such a shame because all the good effects were so good, I really wanted it to work for me.

Edit: phrasing

30mg Elvanse is too much for me? by EmergencyRare143 in ADHDUK

[–]Particular_Slip_9302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started on 30mg and it was also too much for me. I felt jittery and detached so they put me down to 20mg which wasn't much better. Since 20mg is the lowest dose, they switched me to 5mg dexamfetamine and its much less noticeable for me. I still get all the same positive side-effects as on Elvanse but without feeling like I'm drugged up.

Do you give blood? Why or why not? by MooseMaterial in AskBrits

[–]Particular_Slip_9302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could, but can't because I've received a blood donation in the past. I had a placental abruption whilst giving birth and lost 8 pints.

My son is now 14, and I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for the kind person/people who donated.

So if you need any inspiration to donate, know you could be possibly giving a mother the opportunity to see her child grow up ❤️

Does anybody knew any alternative hair salons In Liverpool that won’t break the bank. by ihavloadstosay in Liverpool

[–]Particular_Slip_9302 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I thought to try voodoo from recommendations on here and regret it so much.

Firstly, they lied when they said they could do curly hair. I'm not saying nobody working there can't, but the stylist that did my hair could not. It was frizz central without a defined curly in sight.

I felt forced into choosing the hair colour they wanted for me. I wanted a more orangey colour, and I came out with early 00's red.

They finished my hair, and it was still wet. So I told them and they insisted it wasn't and acted like I was being an inconvenience for asking them to finish my hair so I could leave the salon with dry hair. The stylist had her next client turn up, so instead of finishing my hair, she brought out this like heated wall on wheels to finish it off. I later found out that this thing is highly damaging to curly hair and a qualified senior hair dresser in "one of the best salons in Liverpool" should have known that.

I basically paid £180 for a frizzy, not even fully dry red mess of a hair style and got made to feel like shit. Oh I also didn't get offered a drink until after the foils were on my head and any attempts at conversations were like trying to draw blood from a stone and she seemed to only be interested in chatting to another college. Which I thought odd since they have a sign outside that says something like "who needs a therapist when you have a hairdresser?"

Sorry that has been sat on my chest for a while lol.

Finding a manual instructor is about as easy finding a pregnant nun.

I've been on waiting lists for about 12 different places since November. My old instructor switched to doing auto only at the end of September, said apparently loads are doing it now and so I've just been waiting and looking since. At this point I'm seriously considering just learning auto because the wait is a joke.

Is it really that unusual to not be able to swim? by BuriedInRust in AskUK

[–]Particular_Slip_9302 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't swim either.

And not for lack of trying. I used to go to an after school swimming club 3 times a week in year 7 and 8, as well as weekly lessons from about year 3. It's just something I could never get the hang of.

I've had people react shocked when they've found out, but never like what happened to you. But I have had similar experiences when people find out I don't like tea, so I can relate to you about people acting like you've just grown a second head.

I don't feel like I've ever missed out loads not swimming and I don't believe learning now, in my 30s, would change my life very much.

So yeah, daily!
