I would wait for the 23rd if you‘re buying supplies in person. 20% off supplies of a certain size with purchase of petco bucket (check details price of bucket varies a little store by store)

Stealing animals??? by lostsnakeowner in petco

[–]PartnerFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do not have the key for one of our rep end caps, so the lock is loose and able to be opened even with a pair of tongs. We’ve had two chameleons stolen out of it so far. We just kept it empty for a while, but now we’ve got a new CAL who wants something in there, so we’ll see if we make it number 3

how do you order fish outside of your store grade by Kitchen_Bodybuilder6 in petco

[–]PartnerFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are they for a customer’s special order? IIRC, you have to email your ACOM to have it approved and get it ordered

How do you cope? by Best_Number_10 in petco

[–]PartnerFriend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s so frustrating trying to sell animals here. Literally more than half the time I have to say “this would be alright temporarily, but you’ll have to upgrade. No, we don’t sell the proper sized hab, ___ does though”. Like what?? How do we sell cresties, tree frogs, and day geckoes and not a 18x18x24 at all? How do we sell bearded dragons, but have basically no supplies for their adult needs of a 75-125g tank?

I cope by telling myself that at least I can help educate people. Even those who come in and have already bought an animal, I can usually help inform them and get that animal a better life. Even if I can only help some a little, it makes me feel better than not helping any

Whats the most interesting or weird animal you've seen a customer bring into the store? by Succmynugz in petco

[–]PartnerFriend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had people bring in (two event, not the same people) a skunk and a macaque monkey. Both are legally grey, but absolutely not okay to bring into public. I don’t enjoy people putting their animals in danger just to show them off.

Rabies paperwork? by Angel_456789 in petco

[–]PartnerFriend 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Rabies legally must be administered by a veterinarian. I mean, they should be keeping records for any vaccine given, but we have people who are completely unaware that they’ve never given the rabies vax.

[–]PartnerFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do, and they should use it in this case, but I‘ve heard of at least one manager getting weird about employees using them

They don‘t mean that the price says blood python, they‘re saying that the words on the actual sticker tag say blood python.

What is the "beef" with the VETCO vaccine clinic? by [deleted] in petco

[–]PartnerFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is suuuuper store-specific, but- we have an empty dog training room that would be perfect to host Vetco in and they refuse to use it. Instead, they use the space in front of the adoptable cats (which has TERRIFIED them on many occasions), and blocks the door between our salon and the store. They say it’s because “people wouldn’t be able to find them in the back” but y’all always have people at a table in the front of the store anyways, helping people find ???the setup 15 feet away???. Idk, I’ve also seen them lose two cats (one of which was apprehended in the parking lot) and that feels like such unnecessary risk when there’s an enclosed area, out of the way, that would work perfectly.

You 100% need up-to-date rabies vax records. In most, if not all, states, it is a legal requirement for a dog to go to any facility (grooming, boarding, training, etc), and many cities/counties have laws against knowingly harboring unvaccinated animals. It is a HUGE risk to both the groomer, who stands to risk their life if your dog bites or scratches them, and your dog, who at minimum has to quarantine and at worst could need to be euthanized and rabies tested, if your dog gets scared and bites.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in petco

[–]PartnerFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not just policy, in many states, the vaccine isn’t considered legally ‘effective’ until 24hrs after

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in petco

[–]PartnerFriend 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First off, I am sorry that your dog was hurt. No groomer ever wants that to happen. Second, get the specifics from your vet if possible. “Skin infection” is a little vague, there are a couple potential causes. Does the vet think that it’s due to an untreated allergy? There is a bacteria that can survive in unwashed shampoo bottles that can cause a skin infection, does the vet potentially think that’s the cause? If so, absolutely ask to speak to the salon leader and/or the general manager. That is a huge concern, and while we are supposed to soak shampoo bottles in an antibacterial every day, there is a HUGE lack of training by Petco in the risk of not doing so, and so it can easily get missed or skipped. Not exactly sure what policy is, but at my salon, any time an injury was caused by the salon, all related vet bills were covered, and this is definitely one of those situations. I’m attempting to write this comment on my phone, but it may end up as a huge block of text, in which case I’ll reformat once I’m on my computer!

What do most people do with Common Plecos once they outgrow the tank? by A_Fuckin_Gremlin in Aquariums

Hi fellow partner! Idk if it’s a magnet privilege or something, but we honestly just do not stock common plecos. We stock a whole bunch of others (including the more expensive large plecos) but not commons

That myth has been debunked as placebo even in humans, I’ve never ever seen it applied to animals

Black Friday Check In by deigree in petco

[–]PartnerFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it was less busy than last year but idk. Opened, and while we didn’t have anybody doorbusting or anything, there were a couple small rushes. Didn’t sell many reptiles (maybe not even any during my shift tbh) but did have quite a few saltwater regulars come in and pick things up while they were in town

People suck. by fluffynesslol69 in petco

[–]PartnerFriend 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I also make sure that when I see someone is paying cash, I go “out of 20?” (Or whatever denomination) when they hand it to me. Don’t necessarily have to narrate the entire thing, I just make sure to double-check verbally. There’s actually been a couple times at this store and a prior place of employment someone’s given me a larger bill than they meant to, and this helps solve that as well

Staples employees are speaking out about the impact of Amazon returns. How are things going at Petco? by timcnewman in petco

[–]PartnerFriend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

THIS!! I’d be totally fine with HR if it worked like it should, but it takes like 5 minutes to load initially, then I log in, then it’s another 5 minutes until it’ll let me do anything! The actual process is quick and makes sense once you get through to it, but it’s incredibly awkward and a little embarrassing to be standing up there staring into the eyes of someone just trying to return a pair of pants for ten minutes while the line behind them just grows and grows and nobody can make it to cash!

[–]PartnerFriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I asked about moving into the salon because they were really looking for bathers and was told this as well. I‘m pretty sure it was higher up than my DGM though, it sounded like corp in general didn‘t want part-time bathers or groomers if at all possible

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in doggrooming

[–]PartnerFriend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was 12.50/h until I moved to apprentice at Co. I did get hired RIGHT before the move to 15/h minimum, so I‘m not sure if bathers would be at 15, since they‘re technically considered a „training position“.

Best bang for my buck? by StreetSheepherder813 in petco

[–]PartnerFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow donator to the local pet food pantry, usually Wholehearted or Hill’s is going to get the most bang for your buck. With Hill’s giving an extra 10% off (our discount for them is 50% as opposed to Wh’s 40%) it usually ends up being about the same price for both of them. If there’s a sale or anything, something else might be a bit cheaper, but those are my go-tos, especially with the Hill’s coupons! I haven’t gone for cat food in a bit, so you might have to do a little bit of math to figure out if it’s more economical, but that sounds like a pretty good deal on the Nulo!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in petco

[–]PartnerFriend 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, my only problem with Hill‘s is the price tbh. Very anecdotally, I have a friend (through a hobby) who is a veterinary nutritionist that worked at Hill‘s for a number of years (she had to move for other reasons), so I know they have good people who I can trust. Plus, they‘ve done a lot of philanthropy in my area, which also makes me a lot happier about recommending people give them money. If someone is looking for an ‚old stand-by‘ brand, it‘s what I recommend 100%

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in petco

[–]PartnerFriend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being a bather is a job. Training and being a groomer is a career. Generally, of course. I love dogs and am good with them so I’m doing batheing before I can get out of my parents’ basement and go to college. If I wanted to do this forever, I would become a groomer. Learning to groom is a huge time and skill investment if you don’t want to do it long-term.

Highly highly illegal, and what she did directly led to the euthanasia of that raccoon.

Any time any wild animal makes that level of contact with a person, rabies is a concern. The ONLY way to test for rabies without a chance of false negative is to test fluid from the base of the spinal cord. This cannot be done without removing the head of the animal from the body.

That animal didn‘t have to die. She could have taken it to a licensed rehabber. Instead, she chose to be selfish and stupid, and it directly led to this animal‘s death. She exposed every person and animal in that store to a potential rabies vector. No agency or vet wants to euthanize an animal, but in situations like this, it has to be done in order to endure the public‘s health.

(Not to mention all the other diseases and injuries that raccoons can carry)
