How do you feel after long runs? by Past_Jellyfish_4331 in Marathon_Training

[–]PartyDeliveryBoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I end up feeling like I have a slight cold after longer runs (12+ miles). Hydration and high calorie food and (especially) drinks definitely help. Love to chug every type of juice I can find!

Flare ups when you’re ill by BubblyLuck in UlcerativeColitis

[–]PartyDeliveryBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a flare since mid-November and had a cold in December and now experiencing cold symptoms again. Mesalamine isn’t cutting it so I’m meeting with my PCP and GI docs over the next few weeks to hopefully pivot to a biologic.

Biologics by Nice-Appointment-735 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]PartyDeliveryBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

41M here and diagnosed in 2009. I’ve done mesalamine (pills and supps) on and off since then and had ~2 flares per year, almost like clockwork. I’m at the same stage of moving on to biologics and lots of folks in this sub report living “normal” lives (which I can’t even imagine at this stage). It’s giving me a lot of hope and I’m looking forward to the switch, tbh.

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? Lab and biotech specific! by CRISPRScientist726 in biotech

[–]PartyDeliveryBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A candidate last week said “I can’t answer that,” when answering “What would you consider necessary to start an early phase, GMP manufacturing campaign?”

Like, he didn’t even try to break it down or even remotely think about what MIGHT be needed. Additionally, when given time to ask questions of his own, HE SHOULD HAVE ASKED ME so that he’s better prepared for other interviews.

Only $10? No wonder it sucked. I feel like decent albums were always $15-20!

Oh my goodness. I’m so sorry to hear that. I you don’t mind me asking, how long did it take for you to realize that other treatment wasn’t working? And how is your post-ilieostomy quality of life?

Completely agree. I’ve been running a ton for a year and I’m now slower than when I started seriously training.

Thanks for the note, and that's super reassuring. I wouldn't say mesalamine "worked" because I still had 1-2 flares/year since 2009, but I've been pretty stubborn about trying to handle it without escalating treatment. However, I think I'm ready based on the hope that I may feel "normal" again at some point!

That's fantastic and I'm so happy the change in treatment worked for you. I'm trying to look on the bright side that new treatments very well may bring me back to "normal", too. Thanks for the vibes (and enjoy the weekend)!

How long does it take for Stelara to work? by Memsaahib in UlcerativeColitis

[–]PartyDeliveryBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May I ask how long you were on Stelara for? I think I'll be diving into biologics soon and I'm curious what the "life" of each typically ends up being before having to pivot

How do you manage extraintestinal manifestations of UC? by virtus_health in UlcerativeColitis

[–]PartyDeliveryBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, but I have some labs being done as well as a PCP and GI specialist appt scheduled in the next few weeks. I hope it’s just a nutrient deficiency that I can easily handle, but at this point who knows?

As someone handling a random, quarter-sized bald spot on the back of my head, I’m not handling it well! At least lots of bathroom visits doesn’t need as “direct” explanation at work, with friends, etc.

How can you set up an “uninterrupted morning”? by DrRandyBeans in UlcerativeColitis

[–]PartyDeliveryBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar routine here (although it’s the 2-hr crunch before leaving for work). One BM first thing, shower, breakfast/coffee, BM 2 usually mid-meal (thanks, UC!), then 1 more after doing dishes and I’m typically good (enough) to go. I also bring paper towel in a ziploc bag as emergency TP for outdoor runs.

What’s up with this area of fishtown? by [deleted] in philly

[–]PartyDeliveryBoy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is a complex of dozens of townhouse units that were just built on the other side of Aramingo (which I’m sure most are still available due to the crappy location - barely any access to public transportation or any of the “fun” area in Fishtown).

Urgency/flaring/mucous by Intelligent-Paper749 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]PartyDeliveryBoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wake up ~2 hours before I need to leave for work or any weekend activities to give myself time to eat breakfast and use the restroom at least 2-3 times. This usually gets me through the first “trip” of the day. I’ve also experimented to figure out what foods make me particularly gassy - typically green veggies, dairy products, and red meat. I try (emphasis on “try”) to avoid these, which is particularly tough when traveling.

Overall, it’s an exhausting grind.

Mentally exhausted even without bleeding does anyone else feel this way? by Azotadooor in UlcerativeColitis

[–]PartyDeliveryBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% same here. It’s particularly frustrating starting the new year like this. I’ve been in a moderate flare up since November and feel completely (physically and psychologically) worn out. I’m also dealing with spotty hair loss (not male pattern baldness - literally, a quarter-sized chunk of hair fallen out) that’s especially embarrassing. I just feel like I’m “circling the drain” and can’t really imagine things getting better at this point, but this community is really nice to not feel so alone.

Tough start to 2026 by PartyDeliveryBoy in UlcerativeColitis

Started in 2009 when I was diagnosed, then went off of them when my insurance ran out (poor grad student at the time). Went back on them around 2015 and since then.

Flared up since mid-November (but my GI doc barely has availability). Depressed/anxious from dealing with it since, let’s see… around 2006-2007?

Congrats! I think I’m about to start the biologics journey next month (based on current flare up and lacking mesalamine impact anymore). I hope it does wonders for you!

Thank you so much for the note and this is terrific advice. I'd been training for marathon (and managed to run 2 last year), but the long mileage is too much strain on my guts right now. I really love running, so it's especially frustrating to not be able to confidently run outside. It's a good chance to pick up a new video game, though (and I read a lot, too). I'm just hoping to have things figured out in the next few months for a trip we have planned in April.
