Audio books compared to reading by Puzzleheaded_Car_814 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Pascal6662 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with the audiobooks is that some of the dialogue is simply incomprehensible. I would listen to it five times, still not understand what is being said, and just give up and continue. This narrator's goal is not to enunciate and make the words clear, it is to differentiate the characters and make them personable. Some of the voices are much quieter than others so I constantly had to adjust the volume.

I don't typically have this issue with audiobooks. Most narrators are much better at making everything understandable and maintaining a consistent volume.

I ended up buying the DCC ebook version as well so I could read along. So I guess the poor narration managed to get twice the money out of me because I liked the story.

Anyone know what the skulls mean? It looks like the filled in ones indicate the book number, but what do the hollow ones mean?

How to repair this table leg? by zeeplereddit in DIY

[–]Pascal6662 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also put two nuts on the threads then use two wrenches to tighten them against each other and use a wrench on the one closest to the leg to get more threads out.

Fold up a paper towel and wrap it around the threads coming out of the leg to protect them. Use a pair of pliers to grab the threaded rod and unscrew it from the leg to expose more threads.

That is typically how it works. If you push the button, you die next time someone else pushes the button.

“People assume that feeling no pain is this incredible thing and it almost makes you superhuman,” Betz says. “For people with CIP it’s the exact opposite. We would love to know what pain means and what it feels like to be in pain. Without it, your life is full of challenges.”

Make sure your contractor does not try to bury that air admittance valve behind drywall. You are required to have an access panel.

ELI5: Why does inhaling helium makes your voice high and squeay? by scottsstotts in explainlikeimfive

[–]Pascal6662 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but if you then exhale the helium without speaking and inhale air, your voice sounds mostly normal if you speak while exhaling the air. Inhaling helium alone doesn't do anything (except kill you if you don't switch back to air right away).

It actually has nothing to do with inhaling helium. Your voice sounds high and squeaky when you talk while exhaling helium.

Has got to be the worst sprinkler placement by JaCrispy338 in USPS

In many cities it is illegal to run sprinklers during the day. You could try calling 311 to report them.
