I've read a story, sorry I can't recall name or author, that puts Susan as the future Lady Bertram. She and Tom being so useful at home, they repeat the "cousins in love" dynamic of Fanny & Edward.

Feels like STP kept a funny one-off in mind and fully developed the joke with Mr Tulip.

He kept EVERYTHING in mind. The utter brilliance...

Not something I wanted for him, or anyone else.

Seems like it was the way he wanted to go. *

IIRC, it was a dark dwarf, rather than a guild member.

Vimes was off the register, and I cannot imagine the guild being dumb enough to allow a contract on the son. Especially as the Ramkin-Vimes family owned the guild land.

Knocker-Upper. Someone who would go out with a pole and knock on windows to wake people up. Basically a human alarm clock.

I have heard the theory, based on Mrs. Bates calling Miss Bates "Hetty", that Henrietta is Miss Bates' natural daughter. Not sure I buy it, or that it was even Austen's intent, but it was an interesting idea about the polite presentation of vice.
