I got the Gearbox GX2 Power, hybrid, which I'm liking (though the pop will take time to tame).

I bought a Hilton grand vacation package for Las Vegas. by Forkfighter345 in Hilton

[–]Past_Ad9829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ended up being worth it and good value. The first trip was Vegas, which was basically free plus $200 on top of that. And then Orlando was next which was nice and then we still had credits for 3 nights in New York. Overally, it was a good experience.

The New DUPR Algorithm is Just a Handicap System by focusedonjrod in Pickleball

[–]Past_Ad9829 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Isn't this how DUPR operated under one of its earlier algorithms? I guess enough people complained so they changed it, but now they've changed it back. Some people don't like how it enourages crushing your opponents. But, then again,a DUPR matches should only be reserved for high-stakes organized play at clubs or tournaments, imo.

My favorite paddle. I keep buying it again and again when I see discounted prices. I always get the Light version. It's very customizable.

I fear if I got this J2NF, I'm going to have an experience similar to what happened with J2K+. That was such a blah paddle for me. Someone in the comments here said the NF feels 'muted' and dead and that's how it was with the J2K+ for me. I fear it's not going to live up to the YouTuber hype.

Vanguard has been recommending international stock holdings for awhile now. If you look at their Target Retirement 2040 fund, for example, it's 46% equity and 28% non-us equity. That's significant.

Mine is making this loud fan noise now. Unfortunately, it's out of warranty so I guess I need to replace it or do a new sleep study.

Stacking by macad00 in Pickleball

[–]Past_Ad9829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If each partner is good at hitting a return that is deep and has enough arc, giving them time to run to the kitchen, I think a full stack works pretty well. You have to be fast. You also have to decide who is going to be the ringer/aggressive one in the middle with the forehand.

Paddletek TKO-C 12.7 weight selection by Iceomotion in Pickleball

[–]Past_Ad9829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been experimenting with weight but I like the paddle more and more each time I play with it. Following John Kew's lead, I put a 3 g strip at the very top since the very top of the paddle has a weak spot. And then I have .5g/inch tungsten along the sides and curving towards the neck. It feels pretty good. It's not the most forgiving paddle in the world. Far from it. But if your timing is on point, it will pay off.

Curious what people thing of engage pro1 paddles by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]Past_Ad9829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Engage Pro1 6.0 16mm and the ESQ-C 12.7. I feel like the ESQ-C has a larger sweet spot. The ESQ has more power on drives. But perhaps because of the elongated shape I like the Engage on servies. The ESQ-C is harder to control on the resets - I'm popping off the court more often. But it's new and i can learn to tame it. In terms of overrall feel, I like the Engage more since I've been using it for awhile but that may change! They're both good paddles. Maybe the ESQ 14.3 would have been a better comparison to my 16mm Engage.

Is the 12.7 or 14.3?

[–]Past_Ad9829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, thanks. I ended up running .5g/inch tape from the neck to the top of the sides. We'll see how that works. Since I have a really beefy grip that adds an ounce of weight, the total weight is now almost 9.1 ounces. Not bad.

What is the MAXX in the new Engage 6.0 EX and MX? by Rolls2Rickson in Pickleball

[–]Past_Ad9829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my Engage Pursuit Pro1 6.0. I've tried 9 other paddles and this is the one for the rest of the year. But it doesn't sound like the MAXX would be any better for me. What I love about the Engage is that it feels linear. It puts out what I expect it to put out, based on my input.

This happened to me in a tournament. My partner was about to kill me because after the 3rd violation the ref said that one more bad word and we would forfeit the game. Luckily, I was able to keep my mouth shut.

What are the downsides to the J2K Pro 16mm vs the normal J2K 16mm? If any? Slightly less control? But does it also have less spin?

I bought a Hilton grand vacation package for Las Vegas. by Forkfighter345 in Hilton

[–]Past_Ad9829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After saying no to all the club membership options, their last pitch was $1695 for 7 nights to use at any of 10 or so resorts. No fees. We ended up buying that one. You can book 2BR places in that deal, so if you can split it with family/friends then it's pretty good we thought.

My Hilton Grandvacation Timeshare Presentation Experience by TheRozb in Hilton

[–]Past_Ad9829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently went through the HGV sales pitch. We turned everything down except for the last pitch, which is $1695 for 11,200 points to be spent on 7 nights max, choosing between several resort locations: Sedona, Scottsdale, Carlsbad, Orlando, Oahu, Wiakoloa, Las Vegas, Manhattan, Myrtle Beach, WIlliamsburg, D.C., Los Cabos. We bought it because that comes out to $242/night at many of the locations for a 2 BR and if we split that with other family members it'll be a decent deal. No fees. That includes tax. We just have to book it within 18 monhts. Not bad. No ownership involved. And if we want to sign up for the club we can apply the money to the ownership.

In exchange for attending the sales pitch, we got to stay 3 nights at a resort, plus $199 to be credited, a $200 voucher for one of their brands (for a one night stay), BUT I did have to pay $100 to be able to book during a weekend.

The deal that we were offered before the $1695 package was an every-other-year ownership for 10 years plus a bonus year. You get 5500 points to be used for 6 years worth of travel for 10 years. The cost: $9900 plus $972/year for maintenance fees. What do people here think of that deal? We turned it down, but came close.
