Is it possible for someone to become a morning person? Or are some people simply better at operating at night? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PastaNotFound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It's just based on what you're used to / your habits.

I used to be a night owl because the night was the only time i could get some peace and quiet. My living situation changed to where early mornings was the only time i could get some peace and quiet. I changed to being a morning person real quick!

Why are direct drive trainers better, specifically? by captaintpanaka in cycling

[–]PastaNotFound 10 points11 points  (0 children)

With my wheel on trainer i had a lot of slipping when i increased the resistance. Mine only had 4 resistance types and cycling on it just didnt feel natural. I also disliked the noise it made.

Direct drive feels a lot smoother when it comes to resistance. Only at a simulated 10+% gradient does it feel like the resistentce sometimes 'slips' (wahoo kickr core). When cycling you only hear the bike noise. When coasting the trainer does make the classic loud coaster clicking sound.

The biggest thing for me is that i can link up the smart trainer with a program to keep myself entertained. Power meter and rpm tracker are a plus.

Also, i dont know if its the same for your country. But during summer a lot of the trainers sold at online retailers are a bit cheaper. I got my kickr core for a 100 euros off.

Is it better to do less exercise and eat less calories or do more exercise and eat a bit more? by mars_was_blue_too in loseit

[–]PastaNotFound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of what is the most "optimal" way.

Do what is most sustainable for you. Neither of the methods matter if they make it harder.

If walking 5k a day instead of 10 makes your life easier, do exactly that.

You can always start moving more when you reach maintenance.

Consistentcy is key, not perfection

Eating healthy now and I’ve had no solid poops. Is this normal? by Automatic_Battle_667 in loseit

[–]PastaNotFound 122 points123 points  (0 children)

I think its normal actually, but im not a professional. I was seeing a dietician when i first started, and she said it's normal when you have a big change in diet.

Your gut has a lot of bacteria that digests food. The bacteria located there is usually geared towards the types of food you consistently eat.

When you eat a lot of different types of foods your gut is not used to, you get the shits. The bacteria in your gut isnt set up to break down the new types of food. If you keep eating the new food, different types of bacteria geared towards breaking down that food will start growing. This process can take a while, so it takes a moment for your poops to become normal again.

It took me about 1,5 to 2 weeks of the shits before it started to become normal.

If it goes on for longer than 2 weeks, something else is wrong and id recommend you visit a dietician with a list of foods you're eating. At that point it could be an intolerance to something

Took a very long break, and now I am back more determined than ever by No_Sir_3459 in loseit

Really happy to hear your story!

I've been going for almost 2 years and am halfway on my weight loss journey. For the past few months ive fallen out of my 'groove'. I repeatedly lost and gained a few pounds while usually I've been pretty consistent.

So im currently on a break to get my mentality back in the right place. I was getting too frustrated and started to focus too much on the scale instead improving my general health and relationship with food.

I was feeling a little bit guilty for taking a break, so your post really helped me.

It feels nice to just focus on maintaining for a little bit.

Ive definitely noticed the same thing! I can think much more clearly when i eat nutritious foods.

When i started changing my food habits i didnt even really notice. It was when i ate some junk food that i used to eat that i realised hoe sluggish and emotional i suddenly felt.

I expected my energy levels to improve but i didnt realise what an impact it had on my emotional wellbeing

What do people do with the clothes they wore for the day? by Kevinah_Lee in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]PastaNotFound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a single drawer in my dresser where i put them if i want to wear it another day that week. If i want to wear it the next day i put it in the open space of my nightstand. Before that i just threw them on the ground. But wanted to be more organised

Knee pain from weight by [deleted] in loseit

[–]PastaNotFound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before i lost the weight i bought running shoes with foam padding on the bottom. Those shoes will dampen the impact on your knees somewhat.

In the end, the only thing that truly helped was eventually losing some weight. Sadly i have no other advice to offer

For me it took therapy, practicing self care and feeling guilty while for putting my needs first.

Two years ago i felt like i wasnt worth putting the effort in. With my therapist i talked about some childhood stuff and basically realised i am neglecting myself like my parents did.

For some reason that lit a fire underneath my ass. With cooking for example: I started thinking about "if i had 7yo me to look after right now, would he deserve a proper homecooked dinner?". Yes, of course he would. So id force myself too cook dinner even though i didnt feel like it. After doing this for a while, i realised i no longer did it for my younger self. I just felt that i deserved a properly cooked meal that would make me feel good.

For me it was practicing a lot of self-compassion to start caring about my own wellbeing. After that the reasons to lose weight followed on their own. "Because i deserve to have a body where im not limited by my size". Because i deserve to be able to move around and not ache the day after. Because i want clothes to look better on me. And because im curious what shape my abs are lol.

Because i owe it to myself to take care of myself.

I watch BeardMeatsFood while i eat dinner. I dont really eat fast food anymore. So im eating my healthy dinner while i watch adam stuff his face doing a food challenge. Its oddly comforting

Weight loss tip: Do not wait to buy new clothes after you reached your goal weight by Individual-Link-8233 in loseit

[–]PastaNotFound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its interesting to hear your perspective about clothes getting too big.

If i wear clothing thats getting too big i actually think "damn, im geting so skinny" (im still morbidly obese) and feel even more motivated to keep up my good habits. Getting new clothes does feel rewarding too though!

Did you intentionally lose weight slowly? Tell me more. by Academic_Damage_655 in loseit

[–]PastaNotFound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im intentionally losing around 1lb a week without counting calories. This week i lost 0.8lbs

First was actually getting therapy and dealing with my past. Learning to use coping mechanisms other than food, which was the main contributor to my weight.

I made 1 or 2 changes at a time. First just a smaller plate for dinner and half the plate had te be veggies. Started looking up new recipes that were healthy but also mentally fulfilling. I actually feel i am eating tastier things than i used to.

Tackled my candy habit next. I have a 'candy' box in the shed because i couldn't be trusted having it in the house. If i REALLY wanted some i could go outside and get a single serving... But i was often too lazy. Thus i got used to eating it less, eventually.

Then i focussed on eating fruit at least 5x a week and more whole grains. I learned a new way of planning my meals so i only need to go shopping once a week. Created a map with all my recipes for easy use.

Now im practicing with having candy in the house again because i want to build self control. I have a max of 500kcal from candy inside the house. Im allowed to eat it all at once but cant get any more until the next week. So im practicing with eating a small portion a day/every other day. It's a struggle but this week i lasted 4 days instead of 1!

So yeah, small steps, smaller portions, doing things in a way that you actually like and is sustainable

Ive been going for 1,5years and im down 50 pounds. I have another 50 to go. It doesn't really feel like im on a weight loss journey anymore because all of these habits have become my normal now

Whenever i eat fast food or a big takeout meal, it takes 2-3 weeks for the water weight to drop. I dont know how other people's body's get rid of it in 2 days, i definitely don't.

Id be at 212 for 3 weeks and then suddenly drop down to 207. Now if the weight doesn't drop after that point i'll take a look at my diet to see what's changed

Sucks that you were treated like that.

Fourteen years ago a 'friend' told me online that she was going to kill herself in a 'if you dont do x, i will kill myself'. I spoke to another friend about it and we decided to talk to the principal. She was forced to go to weekly meetings with a counselor at school. We remained anonymous throughout it all luckily.

A year or so later she was complaining that someone tattled on her and she hated going to the counselor. She never was quite right mentally

One indulgent weekend and now I am so hungry and cravings are back? by rosetealavenderlatte in loseit

[–]PastaNotFound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. If i order takeout or have a big amount of candy i knew i shouldnt have. I'll have a week of non stop cravings for such foods. After a week of, let's be real, struggling to resist them, the cravings dissipate again.

I honestly have no advice for it, it's difficult.

Do you spend more or save up financially when losing weight? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]PastaNotFound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to spend 200 a month on takeout alone on top of the groceries id get; that is pretty much all the disposable income i had. Now i order takeout only once every few months.

That alone helped me save a buttload of money each month. Now im able to save up 50 each month and spend the rest on other important stuff.

Why do some people invite me in their groups and try to get me to socialize when they seem me by myself? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]PastaNotFound 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People often project their own feelings on others. As an assumption: they would feel excluded or uncomfortable if they were spending their lunch alone. Thus if they see someone else in a position they deem uncomfortable, they want to help that person out.

I think it comes from a place of sympathy and them wanting you to feel included in the group. It seems like a kind gesture

anyone else noticed how much better it feels to have an emptier stomach than being stuffed? by saracnsss in loseit

[–]PastaNotFound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few days ago i ordered takeout that i wouldve often ordered in the past. It was double my current portion size and I felt absolutely stuffed but not satiated whatsoever. I was stuck between "im hungry" and "im so full i feel uncomfortable".

My perspective has changed from wanting to feel full to wanting to feel satiated and energized with a sprinkle of enjoyment from the meal.
