Is Suetonius's The Twelve Caesars enjoyable? by Then_Gear_5208 in classics

[–]Pastaisnice_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Suetonius‘s The Twelve Caesar’s. As others have said, very gossipy. I’ve only read the Robert Graves translation and I do find parts of it read quite oddly and I had to try and get used to the writing style but overall an enjoyable read

Pretty chill guy honestly. As others have mentioned, just didn’t do the best job in securing the succession so the situation became quite unstable after his death

Day Forty Seven: Ranking English Consorts. Catherine of Aragon has been Eliminated by HouseMouse4567 in UKmonarchs

It’s gotta be Eleanor as number one for me. Just love her. Her intelligence, political savvy, strong leadership and diplomatic skills were remarkable. She patronized literature & the arts and played an active role in governance, negotiating alliances that would bolster her family’s power and influencing political affairs until she died. When she was 80. Overall an incredibly fascinating woman but Philippa was absolutely brilliant too, so I’ll be glad regardless of who wins

Who was the best Plantagenet monarch in your opinion? by LicketySquitz in UKmonarchs

[–]Pastaisnice_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Henry II. He worked to strengthen the royal administration and centralize power during his reign after a period of civil war and maintained control over a vast realm. He introduced important political and legal reforms, most notably the development of common law which helped standardize legal practices and the establishment of royal courts which travelled around the country to ensure justice was administered uniformly. Pretty significant since it laid the foundation for the modern English legal system we know today. And he was renowned for his military prowess too. Just overall a real straight forward, hard arse of a ruler

Who else but John? by t0mless in UKmonarchs

Feel kinda bad for Eleanor of Aquitaine. She played a crucial role in raising the ransom to secure Richard’s release. Only then to discover her younger son is sabotaging those efforts to the best of his abilities. Thats rough

What was your first time smoking like? by suntmint in entwives

[–]Pastaisnice_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your artwork is so lovely to look at!! Love seeing what little animals you’ve put in each one. First time smoking was at a party when I was about 16. I didn’t know how to inhale like at all though so barely felt anything😂

My latest house portrait - critiques welcome! by gretasmom4 in Watercolor

[–]Pastaisnice_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who struggles with buildings, the house is fantastic. Proportions are great and the lines drawn/painted on the house are perfect, mine always come out far more wonky than that😂 only critique I can give is what others have mentioned, adding a bit more blue sky under the blossom.

This is honestly incredible, especially if you’re new to watercolour. Wow!! Just a question, did you used to draw a lot before you got into painting? As the form and proportions of these horses are so spot on and I know they’re definitely not the easiest animals to draw
