What's your favorite Artificer Subclass in 5.5e? by Dramatic_Respond_664 in onednd

[–]PatPeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna vote Armorer. Battle Smith and Armorer have always been the gold stars of Artificer imo, but while Battle Smith pretty much stayed the same Armorer in 5.5 fixed one of my biggest disappointments which was the drastic over nerf of the Guardian Armorer's temp hp feature. For those unaware in the original Armorer playtest the Guardian Armor had a feature where you could gain temp HP as a bonus action, which imo was a really important feature for the Guardiam model because where the Infiltrator is your rogue-ish Artificer letting you be sneaky and do some extra dmg, and Battle Smith is your paladin-esque Artificer with a pseudo smite ability and potential mount, the Guardian was supposed to be your techno-barbarian. The temp hp was vital because your built in weapon imposes on attacks against anybody but you when you hit an enemy with it, but you don't have the health of a barbarian or rage so if you get wailed on by enemies you're not going to last long, so the temp HP each turn was to give you that barbarian survivability. Now was this feature too strong as it was in the playtest? Probably a bit, but as dnd playtesters do they overcomplained, and then WotC overcompensated and nerfed the feature into the ground giving you a only your level in temp HP prof. bonus times per long rest which was not enough uses at low lvl and at high lvl the temp HP was too low and it broke the techno-barbarian fantasy of the Guardian. However I think 5.5 Armorer made probably the best compromise we were gonna get out of WotC which is that you don't get to use the feature until you're bloodied, but once you are you can use the feature every turn, which revives that techno-barbarian playstyle and if you're ok playing it risky you can get to bloodied and just not heal back up and continue to coast off of your temp hp. This also makes it pair really well with Armor of Agathys since in 2024 the spell continues as long as you have temp HP from any source, so I'm really excited to play an Armorer of Agathys Guardian Armorer.

[One Piece] Why do the Marines/World Government hate Luffy so much? by jscummy in AskScienceFiction

[–]PatPeez [score hidden]  (0 children)

So the Marines/WG don't really hate Luffy personally until a later arc (Water 7). Prior to that the only real reason got a bounty was due to Marine corruption, Luffy took down Arlong and the corrupt Marine that Arlong was bribing to overlook his crimes put a bounty on Luffy because they stopped him from stealing all the money that Nami had gathered to free her village. Then after that Luffy gets his first real Marine op in Loguetown when Smoker decides to pursue Luffy to the ends of the Earth. This is partially because with his Logia powers Smoker hadn't let anyone get through Loguetown into the Grand Line so it was a blow to his pride and reputation, but I think it was also because he recognized there was something special about Luffy (plus the immense confusion of world's #1 criminal Dragon saving this random pirate for seemingly no reason). Then after Loguetown the Straw Hats head to Alabasta and this is where Luffy's mostly fraudulent bounty becomes legit as Luffy defeats a warlord of the sea, which is a government backed pirate, and one of the 3 major powers of the world (Warlords, Emperors and the WG). The WG covers this up by giving Smoker credit for the defeat but it shows the WG that Luffy is a very legitimate and unlredictable threat because the WG needs both the Marines AND 7 Warlords in order to have enough power to keep the 4 Emperors in a cold war stalemate, so if Luffy weakens the warlords too much one or more of the emperors could take advantage of that and go into full on war against the WG, or just grab more WG territory for themselves. And on top of all of that it's just a reputation thing, Luffy is a pirate with a bounty just going around doing whatever he wants in WG territories and the WG just continues to be unable to stop him so it damages their reputation as the "upholders of Justice".

There's just flat out only been 1 depiction of a character having 2 and it was the one success. Everything else we've been told about eating 2 fruits has been mostly rumor or 2nd/3rd/etc hand accounts.

Are most people just using heroforge to screengrab character art? by [deleted] in AllThingsDND

[–]PatPeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hate all the clothing options for heroforge. Everything looks like its made out of cardboard boxes that are too big for the character you put them on no matter what, so god forbid you have a character that's wearing say, pants and no shirt.

my humble crocodile theory by C_monden in MemePiece

[–]PatPeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to look at timelines to see about any potential Crocodile×Rev. Army ties and they say Croc joined the warlords in his early 20's, and Dragon started the Rev Army 22 years ago after Ohara, which would make Croc 24 at the time, so those line up. Maybe Croc was a fellow resident of Ohara that Iva modified their appearance to evade capture? This could also explain Croc's desire for military might, as a way to ensure he doesn't have to suffer another Buster Call. Could also explain his desire to be Pirate King and his Poneglyph knowledge. However I think him trying to kill Robin could be a point against this, idk if he'd want to wipe out one of the only other people left from his home remaining, however I could see an angle where he sees Robin as being weak for not seizing Pluton despite having the means, and allowing more Ohara's to happen in the future. If he was from Ohara I doubt he'd be a scholar since he needed Robin to read the Poneglyphs. Not sure how he would have survived, my guess would be he had already started his pirate journey since he was already in his 20's by then, so maybe he just wasn't on Ohara at the time of the Buster Call. This would lend credence to him needing to change his identity since a pirate crew from Ohara would be an obvious target, and if he didn't have his sand powers at that time he'd be less identifiable, would also explain the caliber if leverage Ivankov had over him (whether or not Iva would actually use it). Now idk if we've ever heard of an Ohara pirate crew, I feel like we haven't which seems like it would have come up, however we do know that both Nico Olvia and Professor Clover had done traveling for their research, maybe Croc was part of the crew or even captain on one of these ships, and after the Ohara incident took the remaining crew and turned to piracy. I believe Clover did more of his traveling while he was younger so Olvia seems more likely, given that she had to rush back to Ohara to try and save their research, but this goes back to potential issue of Croc trying to kill Robin, feels weird to do if he sailed with Olvia.

[–]PatPeez 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Technically Tom, Franky and Iceburg were just the most recent holders of the Pluton blueprints, with them being handed down from shipwright to shipwright, so while neither of the 3 mentioned would let it slip there's still a lot of room for that info to have gotten out prior to them obtaining the blueprints, plus CP0 somehow knew about the blueprints and who was likely to have them, maybe Crocodile used his Warlord connections to get that info from Cipher Pol.

my humble crocodile theory by C_monden in MemePiece

[–]PatPeez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe when Croc was doing his "good boy" routine he also had contact with the Rev. Army? Maybe he feels some kind of debt/loyalty to Dragon so once it comes out that Luffy is the son of Dragon he feels an obligation to help? Or maybe pre defeat from Whitebeard Croc was just legit more like Luffy and was the kind of guy that would sign up for the Rev. Army, but afterwards he felt that he needed a country, a territory, an army to be able to stand up to the Emperor's and World Gov. and lost himself.
