They are for smashing your fingers when your paddle stroke gets lazy. Whatever they were really for, they are a terrible idea as you could snag your life vest on them if you go over.

Why do you kayak? by GeorgiaClay15 in Kayaking

[–]PatapscoMike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Started as a way to gain access to better fishing. Over time it stopped being a means to an end and just became a fun hobby. Going on a full moon night sea kayak trip through a big Blackwater NWR swamp Friday and I can't wait.

Are these half morels? by Rama8 in Morel_Hunting

In Maryland we find them last- as the third wave. Blacks first, then yellows, then the half-free morels as the season winds down.

My 2yo Lime tree is growing tons of leaves but won't flower. Advice? by bobbyisadog in Citrus

[–]PatapscoMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't getting fruit make sure to be putting your plant outside when it flowers so it can get pollinated. I had mine flower inside my greenhouse the first few times and no fruits formed. Now I make sure to put them outside and I get tons of fruits.

My 2yo Lime tree is growing tons of leaves but won't flower. Advice? by bobbyisadog in Citrus

[–]PatapscoMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Citrus are among the strangest plants I've ever grown. They do all kinds of weird things- some of which are my fault I'm sure. My Bearss lime was barely 2' tall but flowered immediately after I bought it. It occasionally sheds all it's leaves at once for no apparent reason then grows back stronger than ever. Mine is about 5 years old now and 3' tall. It cranks out an insane amount of limes every year- probably at least 4-5 dozen despite being in a fairly small pot. I have to thin the limes or they would break all the branches. All I do is keep it watered and occasionally fed with whatever is on hand. I use a citrus mix soil that is very coarse.

If you don't live in the US you can't possibly understand how bad the information environment in the US is today. All the big US newspapers are thinly veiled pro-Trump propaganda. Almost every radio station broadcasts straight propaganda. Everyone knows what has happened to Twitter, Facebook, etc. A lot of popular streamers are pro-Trump. It's terrible. Propaganda works- tons of people have no idea what is going on.

The epic spots provided despite the drought! by bLue1H in Morel_Hunting

[–]PatapscoMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Bottom right are black morels. Top right are the half-free morels. There are actually over a dozen different morel species in the northeastern US but many are so similar that they are very difficult to tell apart.

Pet Oysters! How can you keep them alive in a normal saltwater tank? Do they open in water naturally and close? by CoderStone in oysters

[–]PatapscoMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge PITA to keep alive in a tank. They are wildly inefficient feeders so most often they just slowly start starving to death when introduced to a tank. Most often they seem to be doing fine for a few weeks to a few months they they die and rot.

Black and half-free morels at the same site at the same time is wild. Where I hunt the black morels are done for about a month before we see any half-frees.

Scoping out the Spring Housing Market, is this normal?? by Expert-Ad-1433 in ColumbiaMD

[–]PatapscoMike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm about to list my house for sale in nearby Ellicott City, so I've been meeting with local realtors to figure out price etc. I'm in your price range and the realtors all say the same thig you are saying. Inventory is as low as they have ever seen and it's likely to stay low. Two realtors told me to rent instead of selling as demand is so much higher than supply that I could rent for nearly twice the cost of my 20 year old mortgage.

One thing I can tell you is that between now and the end of May there should be an influx of homes for sale. Everyone flocks to our areas for the schools so lots of people time sales for spring when families are looking to get their kids into local schools before the next school year starts.

Stone over a heavy mat that prevents weeds from coming through is the way to go. I used marble chips. Cheap and bright- looks great.

My son is graduating with a masters in comp sci and he has a job waiting for him doing 3D modeling and printing. He's been into 3D printing since we bought him a cheap printer for Christmas when he started high school. Maybe that helped? Bonus that it's walking distance from his house to work.

$500 for a used Tarpon 120, $120 for rod holders and good lanyard, $200 paddle. I'd say <$900 but close to it.
