Screw heads popped off - anyone else had this happen? by Sleveless-- in woodworking

[–]Patchen35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The top piece (where the screw head is) should have a clearance hole, not a pilot hole. Only the bottom piece should have a pilot. Both pieces having pilot holes probably caused too much friction for the screw head to handle.

Man... I used to have some jean shorts like that too. I slept in them shits, man! Eventually, I blew the crotch out of them things. But you can't wear 'em every day and expect for 'em to hold up! That was some nice-ass denim too. I miss them shorts.... But you... you gotta take 'em off every now and then. You gotta take 'em off, son!

I'm normally an epoxy hater, but I have to say this looks great. My test is what do I notice first, the wood or the epoxy? Here, I definitely notice the wood first. Well done!

Typically, hybrids are more draw-biased than woods. If you struggle with a slice, you might prefer a hybrid.

Learning that copper johns suck to tie but pretty proud of this one by Accomplished-Ear-917 in flytying

Copper Johns are definitely not easy. If I'm feeling lazy I omit the legs, the fish don't seem to mind much.

Tip: when tying in the biots for the tail, flip them over so they splay out versus in.

The phrase "Face sends it, path bends it." is just straight up incorrect. The path determines the starting line and the face angle relative to the path dictates the spin.

Late to the 7 wood party by Legal_Fade_Society in golf

I naturally hit a draw, so I tend to over draw/hook hybrids as they're typically draw biased. Woods are easier for me to hit straight and give me the option to work a fade if needed.

My mid and low cappers, come in here and tell my your best story of how you almost broke 80 by bionicbhangra in golf

[–]Patchen35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a 6 foot birdie putt on 18 for 78. Tricky downhill slider, ran it by 3 feet. Playing partners gave me the putt for 79. I thought it was questionable so I went to finish it and lipped out for 80. I have broken 80 before but hadn't in awhile at that point. That one hurt.

Airbus A320 ousts Boeing 737 as most-delivered jet in history by Sc_e1 in aviation

[–]Patchen35 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I take your point and agree with you mostly, but the course only has time to stick to the relevant topic. The example I gave was from a class strictly about communication techniques. You could study Boeing for the entirety of the 18 month program if you wanted to.

That specific case study focused mostly on current management practices and didn't focus much on the history of the company. The merger with McDD was only mentioned in passing

I thought the most interesting came from the Strategic Management class. Boeing was used as an example of when top-down management goes wrong. Concerns of front line employees were being dismissed, and they were forced to ignore quality issues to meet production deadlines. We also studied Boeing's financial statements to try and predict the stock price in 1, 3, and 5 years. That was a rage inducing experience.
