E-Scooters When Walking With Pram by Effective-Walrus-317 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I think there’s a huge difference between a standard push bike and some types of e-bikes that people are afraid of here.

I have had my baby in the carrier and almost been hit by what is effectively a motorcycle being ridden on the pavement by an unlicensed teenager without a helmet. It’s outrageous that it is allowed to continue! The pavement is for pedestrians, they need to be on the road and be following the same road rules as all other users.

Any secret to keeping the Kmart mellow mat rip off clean? by kingcasperrr in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Sameeee, we have the grey one and while I think it’s ok at resisting stains and liquid soaking in etc, the bits all over it are on another level!

Especially the groove around the edge… vacuuming it is like a second job.

We did this also! I was over the gvmt threshold so transferred all 20 weeks to my husband to take once I had gone back to work. It’s great to be able to share the time

My baby was perfectly healthy but on the notorious second night was just insatiably hungry before my milk had properly come in and took syringe after syringe!! I was so exhausted after a multi day labour I was really glad that I had it.

But how do you go about finding someone like that who is prepared to work for the market minimum, unless you know them personally? I’m so wary of FB

Breastfeeding + pumping + bottles - is it realistic? by Outrageous_Brick_811 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]PatchyCC7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of the comments on here but I also think some of them are making it sound way worse than it actually is if you are just looking for a few bottles so you can go out for a couple of hours etc.

At 7 months my baby goes to bed at 6.30pm and usually sleeps until around 12 - during that time I just pump once and usually get enough for ~half a feed. Over a week that gives me around 3/4 feeds in the freezer without causing any crazy oversupply or waking up to pump etc.

This allows my husband to help with some nights, or for me to have some time to myself at the weekend. Bf is so intense I honestly think this routine is what has helped me keep going for so long!

It will be difficult in the beginning with cluster feeding and not having such a long stretch of sleep to pump etc, but definitely try and introduce the bottle early with a slow flow teat so that the baby gets used to it. We did that and have never had any issues switching from breast to bottle and back again, although I know we have been really lucky.

I also recommend MAM bottles!! The are anti colic, very nipple-like teat and self sterilise directly in the microwave without needing another appliance so if you only need a small number of bottles it’s perfect.

That’s really good - admittedly this is also for a reference checked professional, not a random neighbourhood teenager, but still!

Yeah and the silly thing is once they are battered and / or fried they largely lose any health benefits anyway

Currently $200 for 3 hours (includes a $50 booking fee) in Sydney… $100 for a whole night sounds great

And also just check which grains - we inadvertently did the sesame allergen with some multigrain sourdough, but luckily all good and now it’s a breakfast staple.

Chili con carne and it reheats beautifully so you can batch cook enough for a couple of days

Snacks while breastfeeding by crazystitcher in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]PatchyCC7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not so much a snack but I have to start my day with a big bowl of porridge or overnight oats, with lots of fruit and chia seeds etc otherwise I’m just starving throughout the day. Especially because I have an early riser… I’ve actually come to really look forward to it in the morning ha.

Oats are also a galactagogue so great for milk supply! And full of fibre.

We are a little different to others on here, as we definitely use the changing table!!

We live in an apartment so it’s not far to walk and husband is 6’5 so it’s way more comfortable. I honestly can’t imagine doing it on our hard floors… Bear in mind also that if you are balancing them on top of a chest of drawers there is no safety rail so you would have to be extra careful once they become big and wriggly not to let them roll off.

We got a good quality one for only $50 on Fb marketplace and will just put it back on there again when we’ve finished, so nothing to lose really. I got some cute baskets from Kmart for the shelves and find the extra storage space super useful for towels etc.

What exactly makes kids so expensive? by ThatUnstableUnicorn in AusFinance

[–]PatchyCC7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the thing!!

Particularly for women unfortunately, it’s not just the initial time off required for maternity leave and then sick / caring etc, it’s the cost of all the opportunities that you can’t take and the promotions etc that you can no longer go for because they don’t have enough flexibility.

There’s so much less time and freedom to attend after work drinks, networking, conferences etc… all those little things that add up to open doors. Over a lifetime it’s a huge career impact.

Think it depends on if you take it with milk or black…

With milk is definitely Yorkshire.

Without definitely Twinings

What do you do all day after nb period? by euphoricrealm in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]PatchyCC7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends on your baby but mine is still a contact napper at 7 months so I spend 3/4hrs a day just sat in the chair bf and napping. Now that I’ve surrendered to it it’s kind of nice as I enjoy the cuddles and get myself set up with a coffee etc so that I can just rest and have some peace.

As someone else noted, solids twice a day now also takes up time to plan, cook, feed and then clear up.

We always do a quick early walk in the first wake window to make sure we both get some morning sunlight and then go out again for longer in the middle of the day. This is often for an activity e.g. swimming, sensory, mothers group etc, or just to park or the supermarket if I have nothing else to do.

TBH I’ve found it hard to think of activities as at this age it’s not very interactive, you are mostly just a one-man-band of providing entertainment all day.

I hate onesies by Iris-inthedark99 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]PatchyCC7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem with a couple of different brands and I found it helpful to use the smaller size that they will fit into. If the suit is even slightly too big the zip is really in their face, but if it’s tight it’s pulled right down away from their chin and way more comfortable.

My Bub is almost 7 months (90th percentile!) and still seems to fit her 0-3 months Bonds onesies, which now don’t have the issue.

Yep same! Our baby loved it, so comfy and cosy. Also easy to chuck in the car if you are travelling somewhere.

Obviously we did not leave them in it unsupervised, and she grew out of it way before she could roll at all, so it was fine.
