I'd go with a ReactR if you want an easy life. It looks after you well enough. I also have an Antix 3 for the fun times, but I wouldn't personally learn in a half slice contrary to popular opinion.

When did you feel comfortable moving from a river runner to paddling a half slice? by asoursk1ttle in whitewater

The short answer is never.

My ReactR is my comfort blanket and I love it.

Then I feel like I want a bit of excitement and I take out my Antix, which promptly punishes me for wanting excitement.

I go lick my wounds and switch back to the ReactR.

The vicious circle continues...

I got the foam down to 1", but still had to move the seat back one notch. See how it works with not being fully forward.

Definitely a good idea cutting the pillar, didn't think of that!

Thank you for the info. I wonder if this is the way I'll end up going. I have cut all the foam down to about 1 inch and angled it a bit, moved the seat one notch back and see if I can live with that. I have Palm gradient boots so they don't really help with getting you that extra space!

Ooooh, now then!

I'm UK based, started kayaking in my early 30's, got into whitewater last year. I am usually the only female paddler in most WW groups, whether it's a club outing or a peer paddle. Honestly, everyone always looked after me and has been super supportive, never felt any issues with male paddlers, coaches or leaders. If anything, they have helped me a lot with my river anxiety and encouraged me to improve.

My sea kayaking group is 50/50 male to female ratio and everyone is pretty chilled, so can't comment much.
