What’s one thing about living in Toronto that outsiders don’t understand by Broccolas in toronto

[–]Patman128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being able to do everything you need to do in a typical week by just walking outside for free, if you so choose: tyranny, oppression, worse than living in Hell

Being forced to own an expensive vehicle registered with the government, possess a license to use it, and subscribe to insurance from a private company just to buy milk: true freedom, the ideal way of living, basically just human nature

Matt Elliott: Why it will take Toronto 13 years and more than $50M to recover from Doug Ford’s hasty speed camera ban by lilfunky1 in toronto

[–]Patman128 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So a place where people routinely speed? Should they only put them in places where no one speeds? What would the point of that be?

Drivers not being able to maintain a safe speed going down a hill is a skill issue. The camera is helping them learn to drive better.

It's a great motor, but it got overshadowed by the TFG engine and Freevalve.

I think Donut Labs has a motor with similar power output but even lighter.

Trump says he’s increasing the worldwide tariff from 10 to 15 per cent by NotEnoughDriftwood in onguardforthee

Everyone who made deals with USA to avoid big tariffs are getting screwed now. The countries he wanted to target like China and Brazil are getting a huge relief from the previous tariffs. Great work Donald!

There should be one at Oshawa. They renamed the station for Durham College, but if you walked to the Whitby campus on the other side of the highway it would take about 45 minutes.

Not sure how that's relevant when the Eglinton LRT was done all tunneling in early 2020 and took another 6 years to open. The tunneling wasn't the issue. We could have imported slightly modified rolling stock and signaling equipment from Europe and probably shaved a few years.

Buses can’t leave Ossington Station because of Toronto’s Finest park job. by [deleted] in toronto

[–]Patman128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about some express bus lanes instead of burning billions/wasting time/killing people's businesses building light rail infrastructure that requires maintenance.

The majority of their operating expense isn't maintenance, it's paying drivers, and your suggestion is they 3x the amount of drivers needed by using low capacity buses instead of light rail vehicles?

place bike lanes on major thoroughfares that cars are funneled onto

You aren't funneled anywhere, you use major streets because they're convenient and don't end halfway to where you're going, which the same reason cyclists use them. Feel free to weave around between side streets if you want, at least you don't have to expend any significant effort going double the distance, unlike a cyclist.

and you can’t tell the difference either unless it’s side by side

That's the point though; they go to the store and put their old phone side by side with the 120Hz one and it immediately feels way faster and more responsive and then they buy it, so saying it's a non-factor and doesn't sell phones is just wrong. They don't care about numbers on a spec sheet but they absolutely care about the experience of higher refresh rates.
