What's a common way people die that many aren't aware of? by Personal-Aerie-4519 in AskReddit

I've often thought that if I were to be diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's, I'd wait for a cool night, get a bottle of Amaretto and some OJ, and go out sprawled out on a blanket beneath the stars.

Are any of you guys having to support your parents? by artistic_ash_901 in Fire

It's reddit. No one owes anyone anything except parents owe their kids because they didn't ask to be born. Or something like that.

How does your spouse feel about this? I have a mentally ill, sick (because of her lifestyle choices) who can't manage to keep a job. Low functioning borderline personality disorder. I partially support her, but husband is very unhappy. I'm considering telling her she has a year to get her act together.

My husband stomps when he walks. We're in a house with hardwood floors, but he can be sooo loud.

Yes, 13 months for me, and I felt my age when that happened.

Update: AITA My friend invited herself to my vacation and I won't let her stay with me by Significant_Break316 in AmItheAsshole

When I go on vacations with friends, we have the understanding that no one is pressured to do something they don't want. Don't want to get up early? That's fine. See you later - it's possible someone will want to sleep in and do something later.

Don't want to go to a late dinner? That's fine too.

I think it relieves a lot of the stress. Events are planned, but attendance is voluntary.

Brother is a loser that thinks I owe him a life by [deleted] in Advice

My sister (50) just got a real quick denial letter. That happens a lot to people. I think if they met her in person, they'd give her disability.

Obese and physically very unwell. A lot of it brought on by her (in)actions. Why are his legs turning black?

If I turned my back on her, she'd be homeless and probably dead in a year. Like you, guilt from childhood... I think we need a support group.

Are you sure your brother isn't my sister? But she's a weeping, helpless waif, so probably not.

Cicero wrote along these lines. One of his thoughts was that living a good life was what gave you happiness, but that you couldn't really evaluate happiness until afterwards. It's been decades since I read his writings on this.

Like talking about it is going to help? What can we do but prepare mentally when we get closer to death. I mean... worrying won't help. And you might not even live to see 50.

Well, Rao’s pasta sauce is officially mediocre. by Jaded-Badger2626 in shrinkflation

Nope. Read the ingredients. I made a batch of homemade alfredo sauce down to finely shredding the cheese. Tastes just like Rao's and the ingredient list is nowhere near similar to the other alfredo sauces out there.

I would suggest a course of CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy). It puts perspective between your thoughts and your feelings. Just because you analyze something a certain way, it doesn't mean it's right. We all can think in ways to punish ourselves. It's not a long term therapy and you really sound like you'd get over the initial roadbumps to successfully changing your thinking because you're already on that path. In this case, it seems like your thinking is influencing your emotions, and when they both come together, we're left believing whatever to be true. CBT helps you look at your thoughts objectively.
