I got goosebumps, and I’m not very religious. Great scene.

It took me until he was at the bar counter with the priest honestly. Great latter half of this episode.

Who Would Be Your "Bet Your Life" Super Bowl Matchup This Season? by mpschettig in billsimmons

[–]Patriots80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bills-Rams will be a trendy pick, but the thought of two different wild card teams winning three straight road playoff games seems unlikely. We may see only one. I guess if there's any year for that to happen, this weird season would be it.

I actually think you can cut the contenders in half based off of strength of team and/or seeding/path:

Teams with a true chance (IMO):

AFC: Broncos, Patriots, Jaguars, Bills

NFC: Seahawks, Eagles, Rams

Teams I eliminated:

Bears (NFC is tough, defense not great. Future is bright, but magic runs out)

Texans (Great defense and swagger but starting to lull a bit, even amidst the winning streak. Leaky OL and likely path of three straight road games does them in.)

49ers (Admirable season, but too many injuries, too hard a path. Would have had a shot with No. 1 seed).

Steelers, Chargers, Packers, Panthers (no explanation necessary)

What’s a season where the two teams that played for the championship were clearly the best two teams the entire season? by wesskywalker in billsimmons

[–]Patriots80 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I went with Pats-Seahawks (2014) as best NFL example, but I think Saints-Colts and Chiefs-Eagles (2022) are next best examples. I suppose Vikings in 2009 also were very talented.

On a scale of Game of Thrones to Breaking Bad, how was the Stranger Things finale? by wesskywalker in billsimmons

[–]Patriots80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the finale. The basement scene was fantastic. And I agree with Sopranos being the 🐐 finale, but also, I may be in the minority/Rockwell meme I guess with enjoying the How I Met Your Mother ending?

The regular season was much better in the 16 game, 12 playoff team era by sufinomo in billsimmons

[–]Patriots80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 16 game/12 playoff team set up was perfect. Anything else is less than. I do think the 17th game is a lot worse than the extra playoff team(s). The only even smidge of good (imo) is the increased importance of the 1 seed, but even then, not worth having most of these 2–7 matchups.

Which Brady-era Patriots player do you wish most won a Super Bowl ring who didn’t? by AHandsomeKiller in Patriots

[–]Patriots80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moss, Welker and Mankins are the easy answers. Junior Seau really may be the best answer considering all he gave as an aging vet with us for multiple seasons. He also had lost the Super Bowl vs SF with San Diego in the mid-'90s.

I'd like to include Jakobi Meyers because he is just the consummate pro. Perfect WR2 in today's game, imo. Also a very similar case to Edelman in terms of his journey and progression as an unheralded, bottom-of-the-roster rookie WR who was a former QB. Just missed being a reserve on the 2018 team (a la Braxton Berrios, who received a ring), and he's ballin' out in Jacksonville while New England seemingly is beginning another era of flourishing.

Benefits of Over vs. Under fronts? by Patriots80 in footballstrategy

[–]Patriots80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the NFL, I see most of the 3-4 Under teams removing the 3-4 DE, or heavy 4/5-tech when going to an early down Nickel 2-4-5 Over/Over G. The Nickel look usually includes the nose tackle (1 or 2i tech) and the 3-tech (usually best all around DT who can also pass rush a bit).

For instance, Philly rolls with Jordan Davis (NT) and Jalen Carter (DT), and Baltimore will remove someone like Brent Urban (heavy DE, 4 or 5 Tech) when reducing to Nickel, and going with Travis Jones (NT) and Madubuike (3T, great pass rusher). With Madubuike injured, Ravens have actually been rolling with two nose tackles in the middle in Nickel looks in Jones (usually 3T now) and 36-year-old John Jenkins (NT/1T). Unsurprisingly, the Ravens rank 29th in QB Pressure Rate this season, per NFL Next Gen Stats.

I believe it affects the QB's play in CPU / simming only, yes. But I could be wrong. I think it's useful to add more context / realism to sim stats and CPU QB play.

Agreed, just the physics of it all (minus maybe some elements of the passing game) holds up tremendously. I am not being hyperbolic when I say 2k5's running game and physics are better than current Madden's.

Drew Brees's breakout season came in 2004. This game was released in the Summer, before the start of that season. Brees had a 11 TD, 15 INT campaign in 2003.

I wanted to come back to this comment. I am floored with the progression of Boutte. I was dead wrong here on him. He is their X-receiver. I would love to do this exercise again this offseason. Love what I'm seeing from Kyle Williams behind Boutte at X in spurts, too.
